Curious how the diesels are doing especially, but also curious how others are doing now that we are seven years into the JL. Anyone disappointed with a JL engine and change to a different model? Anyone having a great experience with whatever despite a negative reputation?

The diesel engine: there's a guy by the name of @Tredsdert that has the 3.0 diesel engine. If he can't kill it, there's no one on the face of the earth who can. Unfortunately and I have no idea why but the diesel engine is no longer available. However, I believe you may see that engine again in the future.

Psst, this may sound a little weird but sometimes I wonder if Tredsdert is from the future. 70 years.........

Everyone I've talked to who owns a JL Wrangler seems to have the same outlook of the vehicle:

You either have a lemon or you don't, there's almost no in-between.

As for my EcoDiesel, 50,000 mi and zero issues so far. Any issues I have had have been self-inflicted, and none of them have been with the motor.

There are a bunch of members on here who have had different engines, switch them up and can give you a much better perspective of what the better engine is. The simple breakdown however is as follows:

Lots of highway driving: 3.0
Lots of short distance driving under 20 mi: 4xE
No special conditions, but you want better mileage: 2.0
No special conditions, but you don't care about getting shit mileage: 3.6

Realistically the 3.6 l should be the most reliable engine here, it's only been around for 20 plus years, but somehow it seems to be the least reliable engine. It could also be that there's the most of them available and that's why. Higher numbers of engines means higher numbers of failures, means higher numbers of people complaining about it on the website.

The 4XE is tough because if you bought it for the right reasons, it's an awesome option, but if you drive more than 20 miles a day, you're going to have a lot of issues with it. Beyond that it does have a lot of issues.

As for the 2.0, I haven't heard too many people complain about it in general. If anything I'd probably say it's the most reliable engine option here. Or it could be that most people prefer the 3.6 over it. I'd love to see the 2.0 guys weigh in on this one.

It would be cool to see the EcoDiesel brought back, or for that matter then to put a Cummins diesel in it. Not that Cummins diesel are any bit better, but they do run Cummins in the Rams, I never understood why they went with an Italian engine in the Wrangler. 🤔

Almost 6 years, 35K miles, regular oil change. New battery pair the only "repair".

65K miles on my 2.0L, nary a complaint, aside from that it sounds like a sewing machine trying to eat a box of staples when it first starts up.

Like @BobW, only "repair" thus far has been a new battery. I also do oil changes every 5K miles and air filter every 10.

New vehicles aren’t meant to be reliable or repairable

3.6 with only 50k miles. Of course, no issues. Nice engine that’s been tested for decades and millions of miles.
Any engine can fail. These are mass produced products. Just take care of them and hope for the best.

For the record, if a manual transmission were an option on the diesel, I’d probably have gone that route.

2018 3.6 Here with 69k. had to replace all 4 O2 sensors. Seems to be leaking oil from everywhere now (except the oil cooler "for now") Replaced all idler pulleys, alternator, and radiator. I've never had so many issues with a car with under 100k on it. I need to run either premium or non ethanol to keep engine running smoothly. So not very happy with this engine. Just waiting for the "ticking" timebomb to show up :( "keeping fingers crossed it doesnt" edit...also went to Genesis dual battery as i got tired of replacing both batteries every 1.5 years.

55k on my 2.0. I have also only ever changed the battery. Oil at 5k intervals.
Kinda dreading my next tire change, what with the prices these days. But at least I got it paid off, finally.

I never found it to sound "like a sewing machine" but maybe that's because this is the only Jeep I ever owned.
