So - how strong is the magnet with this? sounds like an option for what i'm looking for, but curious on the magnetic strength. Your pic shows your Qi charger verticle, so curious how string it is. Thanks for the info!
@jlewissystem, it'll largely depend on the thickness of your case and how heavy your phone is, but I've got a Galaxy S8 and it stayed on last weekend during some pretty jostling offroading. If you've got a heavier phone, I know there are some mounts that still do wireless charging, but also physically grip the phone.

Here's another Cell Phone Mount option. This one consists of a Mob Armor Mobenetic Stick 90 mount, a LyncTec Bolt motorized mount and QI wireless charger, and a heavy duty washer.

The LyncTec Bolt is a "vent mount" device, but I used a Dremel to cut the rear mounting point off. I glued a heavy duty washer (1.5 inch in diameter) to the back of the LyncTec Bolt. That washer creates a VERY STRONG bond with the Mob Armor magnet mount.

I then used two USB cables and some mesh wire wrap to create two power sources from the media block on the dash. One is a Type C to Type C cable, and the other is a USB 3.1 Type C Male to Standard Type A USB 3.0 Male Data Cable. Both cables are about 7-inches long. One powers the cradle, and the other connects the phone to UConnect directly. If you don't need to connect directly to UConnect, you only need one of the cables.
  • The standard USB cable plugs into the LyncTec Bolt permanently
  • The USB C to USB C cable plugs into the Phone (when needed for UConnect Access
The result is an extremely stable, motorized phone mount that wirelessly charges my phone. But, since I'm commonly connecting my phone to UConnect (for Waze and a higher quality music feed), the corded charging overrides the QI charger.

When needed, I can pull the LyncTec Bolt mount off, and stick anything to the Mob Armor mount. All parts shared tend to go on sale from time to time. Yes, it's a bit expensive, though I had the parts from other projects and have yet to find anything close to this that met my needs.

Just got my JLU Friday and have been pondering this for months. A friend mentioned this one and I got it and put it in today. So far so good. They have wireless charging but I skipped that since I plug it in for CarPlay anyways.

I picked up a RAM suction mount and 7 inch arm with a Hondo Garage phone mount. Time will tell how the suction mount holds.

It’s a magnet. I’ve a case on my phone that has a metal disc on its back. Looks like it belongs there when not in use.

Yesterday I hooked up an IOttie wireless charger to a 67 Designs mount, and installed a dual USB port in the dash tray next to the mount. Besides the short usb cable between the charger and the port, I have a clean, wire free center console with a wireless charger that works with any newer smart phone.

Retired from Corrections....I have stories.
I did it this way. It will hold my phone for normal stuff and a 10 inch tablet when off roading. It is out of the way and super adjustable.

I think I have less than 30 dollars into it.

I actually need more of a holder/holster/storage to place my phone. I use CarPlay, so I plug it in and put the phone away. Right now I stick it in the key holder in the middle of the cup holders. I was thinking about those narrow storage bins you stick in between the the front seats and the center console. But I’ve seen too many mixed reviews. Any other ideas?

Love the 67 designs rail but couldn’t deal with $145 for a phone mount so I did my own.

Camera accessory arm for $18 off amazon and a $10 phone holder off amazon. Works great but I haven’t gone off-roading yet to really test it. Doesn’t fully lock in place so it might move.

Drilled a hole in the dash and the rubber insert to mount it. Used a metal plate that’s taped and screwed.

Sometimes I leave my phone plugged in the center console and sometimes I want it mounted centered above the infotainment system. I wanted something I could easily remove when not in use, so here’s what I came up with.

I removed the clips from a Bracketron RoadTripper, superglued magnets to the bottom then put metal plates on my phone and center dash bin. Works great and looks great. The style of the RoadTripper fits well.
