Holy crap, you actually drive it with her in that seat??? I'm guessing you've never been in a significant accident.
Laws aside, I honestly don't see the reason everyone is so concerned over that suicide seat. For short city trips, why not? And if you think I'm crazy, are you telling me you've never, ever, once ridden in the back of a pickup (which is legal in several states)?

Thanks. Glad I didn't get one.
The concept is great but I felt the execution was lacking. Also anything you put on the side of your Jeep is going to catch the wind pretty hard.

I sold mine but kept the rotopax and will most likely do a spare tire mount of some kind in the future.

Holy fuck that is the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen in my entire life.
Lets maximize what could be a minor t-bone accident by having a gas can burst and burn.
So I take it you're not a fan of any exterior mounted fuel tanks?

Or are you only worried about getting t-boned?

I’ll carry extra fuel but like to give myself a fighting chance of survival in the event of a collision.
My last 3 Jeeps had fuel cans mounted on the tire carrier up higher than the the taillights. In the event of a rear-end collision they hopefully were high enough that most vehicles would have made contact below the tanks.
Those side mounted cans would have virtually zero chance of not getting punctured in a side impact collision with any car.

That's probably a smarter idea. Personally I don't really like those tailgate things. I don't run a spare back there because it takes a really large window and blocks more than half of it. I'd rather have the visibility than have a spare tire back there.

I've never been t-boned. I've never been in a major accident with another vehicle. I've only ever gotten to one fender bender, and I've totaled a vehicle by myself with no one else involved.

I probably driven close to 600,000 mi over my lifetime I'd say. I think the odds are probably in my favor. If not oh well.

Edit: actually probably closer to 750,000 mi. I forgot to add in my wife's vehicles.

My driving experience pretty much mirrors yours, similar lifetime mileage, only a couple of very minor collisions (although one was a t-bone) and totalled one car all by myself.
I still drive like I’m expecting every idiot out there to hit me though?

I have. I haven't, however, placed my kids or grandkids in that situation and driven them around. Apparently @Tredsdert doesn't either.

Hell, as a 10 year old kid I sat between the seats of an MGB flying down the Autobahn to get to the next party that my brothers were going to. My parents damn sure didn't know about that. Or when I first drove on the Autobahn at age 10. They sure didn't know about the stupid things like that, but they weren't the ones putting me in those situations.

I never thought it was worth bothering with, especially gasoline. Even in Alaska fuel stations are pretty much within reach even the Dalton highway is couple hundred miles between fuel. Well within reach.

But just my opinion.
Same with diesel I take it? No major issues finding it up there yet?

You might not realize that it's a diesel, so there's no "gas". It'll eventually flame up, but nothing like gas.

This past summer I added another jerry can to the passenger side, how you would sometimes see them on WW2 Jeeps. Again purely for show, I don’t carry gas in these cans.

But Why doesn’t this look like the authentic hellywood “Rat Patrol” Jeeps ? bad example

Ahh, diesel fuels a whole different story. Disregard everything I said.
You can safely carry that can on your lap while lighting a cigarette?

Obviously photoshopped- looks like New Zealanders, other Commonwealth and Brits. I watched Rat Patrol, it’s Americans and one Brit as I recall, starting in Aug 1940….. hmmm

Also I don't want a fuel tank mounted for daily driving. If you remove the can, you now have this weird plate with a long bolt sticking out. You'd have to remove entire thing.

I know you're joking, but I'm pretty sure the diesel won't light.
