How Do You Carry Extra Gas

I know you're joking, but I'm pretty sure the diesel won't light.

Yeah, the chance of diesel fuel igniting is drastically lower than gasoline. If you drop a lit match into a pool of diesel fuel it will just sizzle out, not so much with gas.
I remember as a kid growing up we had a garage fire that nearly burned it to the ground yet a full 50 gallon drum of diesel fuel stored inside was still intact once the flames were out. I hate to imagine how that would have ended if it had been gas instead.

I still don’t think I would carry diesel on the sides like that but it would be significantly safer than gas in the event of an accident.

So while I would personally purchase three more of those door mounts because of that solid price decrease, I already plan on purchasing this guy in the near future...

Strangely enough it ships from Poland. And on the plus side it comes with two of those Jerry cans. For that price you're actually saving a boatload of money. Those Jerry cans go for about $90 each and the GELG dual Jerry can holder usually goes for about $220 by itself. The guys got a pretty solid rating and his reviews are definitely on point. I'm guessing it's because it's Poland, which is a beautiful shit hole if you ever been there! ??? (My mom's side has family out there, I haven't been myself but my mom went last year)

I plan on putting this where the old spare tire mount was. I currently have a piece of clear neon green plastic there. The plan is to rig up a DIY mounting rail system that I can attach the dual jerry cans when I need them and at other times run without them. And be able to slide the system on, lock it in place, and then slide the mount off when I don't need it. Haven't really gotten that far yet, just kind of know the basics of what I'll be using and how I'm thinking about doing it. It'll also involve me installing a molly panel on the interior of the tailgate. At this moment my interior tailgate is completely exposed, wiring and all.

The NATO style jerry cans are a pricey option but well worth it. My oldest is over 20 years old and good as the day I got it. I think I got it from Wavian. I also prefer the flexible metal spout over the one with an internal valve that opens when the spout is compressed. The one I had would constantly stick open or closed.

+1 for the 20L fuel carriers. I've half a dozen genuine NATO issue cans that are used to store my seasonal fuel stocks.

I also have one lashed to the sidecar. OEM 10L.

I probably driven close to 600,000 mi over my lifetime I'd say. I think the odds are probably in my favor. If not oh well.

Edit: actually probably closer to 750,000 mi. I forgot to add in my wife's vehicles.

Got me thinking... I'm somewhere around the 1M mark now. I put .5M on one car by the time I was 40.

I've been struggling with tightening and loosening the caps on my Rotopax fuel containers, especially on an older 2-gallon. I swore it was a defective container or cap, but the threads look fine and a new cap didn't solve the issue. Recently, no matter what I tried, I just couldn't loosen the cap. I was about to give up and just drive with the spout on (the Rotopax was empty) when I had an idea... I asked a younger, bigger guy if he could loosen it, which he did with almost zero effort.

Getting old sucks! I'm turning into that 98 lb weakling that got sand kicked in his face in all the old comic books.

Anyways, I just bought a 3D printed wrench on Etsy that supposedly fits the Rotopax caps perfectly... we'll see who kicks whose ass now!

My wife got me a cargo window mount. Haven't installed it yet.
I have a 2 gallon rotopax, so it would get me about 45 miles on road and assuming 30-35 miles offroad.
Never actually needed it, but nice knowing it's there. It says 400+ miles when filled.

1.75 gal. RotopaX intended as an emergency spare during camp-and-ride weekends.

The lens pokes through a purpose-cut hole in the carrier plate, so the camera's functioning is unaffected.

The carrier plate was sourced from a small, 12-unit production run arranged by a fellow Jeep owner. I snagged the last one. The Rotopax mount, which I purchased on Amazon, uses pre-drilled holes in the plate.

Not visible are the 3 double-female lug extensions that use the spare tire's studs for proper retention.
