Yeah, the chance of diesel fuel igniting is drastically lower than gasoline. If you drop a lit match into a pool of diesel fuel it will just sizzle out, not so much with gas.I know you're joking, but I'm pretty sure the diesel won't light.
I remember as a kid growing up we had a garage fire that nearly burned it to the ground yet a full 50 gallon drum of diesel fuel stored inside was still intact once the flames were out. I hate to imagine how that would have ended if it had been gas instead.
I still don’t think I would carry diesel on the sides like that but it would be significantly safer than gas in the event of an accident.
