I have a Smittybuilt X20 winch with a cordless remote, how do y'all go about charging your remote? Do you just leave the ignition on with it plugged in? Is there another way I'm not aware of?

You don't. It uses a specialty 12v battery, commonly found in older garage door openers. They are not rechargeable. Go to a batteries + bulbs store and they will have them, or order from amazon.

To find it, just open the hatch at the back of the remote.

I'm pretty sure it has a rechargeable battery.;) I just think there has to be a better way to charge it than to leave it plugged into the winch with the power on...

I swear when I first got it the battery went dead fairly quickly, but then I plugged it in for a bit and it charged enough to use it once again? Am I trippin?

 Nope. Alkaline batteries are not rechargeable. The battery says on it in the picture above "This battery is not rechargeable, may explode or leak if charged"

Well thank you all for the info, clearly I was ignorant in thinking it had a rechargeable battery. I guess that makes more sense.

Nope, not rechargeable, yep you’re trippin’. Lol. Good news is they are small and inexpensive. Buy a 2 pack for $5. Put one where you store the remote and one in the console or glove box. You’re covered.
