Manual trans = 3.6L for those of us who prefer the manual. I definitely would have considered the 2.0 although have never driven one. A manual 392 would be my choice of course.

There isca reason they offer it for 1000 less
Yeah... and it's the same reason eTorque keeps changing which engine it's prided with: CAFE vs. MSRP vs. manufacturing costs vs. expected sales vs... etc.

range was what attracted me to the EcoDiesel.

experiencing the torque when driving one is what sold me.

Test drove both the 2.0 and 3.6 to see which I liked better. Did not consider the diesel they put in these, and after looking at the sticker for a 6.4 and realizing there would be no 5.7 option, I took the 3.6.

Wanted the manual… also prefer not to have turbo long term. Made it easy.

works for me.

I would have preferred a V8, proper manual, 2 dr….. Drive a V8, auto, 4 dr. …. priorities.
this old man has always gotten the biggest, most powerful engine available (reasonably) for the vehicle. If no acceptable engine is available, a different vehicle, again reasonably, not a special edition high dollar one like the E-85 burning Challenger, or a G63 AMG G-Wagon.
2 lifetime exceptions, a 95 Honda Prelude for fuel savings on my ~130 mi commute. Fail- between (high) maintenance, insurance, and license it proved less expensive to drive my Dodge V10 PU. , and a 62 6 cyl Chevy PU,
but it did have the “big” 292 6. 😉

What were the driving factors that lead to your engine choice? I've been on the fence between the 3.6 and the 2.0T. I'm leaning towards the 3.6 because of the long track record, smooth power, and the sound, sound is oddly important to me. What I don't like is the reduced fuel economy and lower power compared to the 2.0T. I've owned turbos in the past with terrible curves making the gas pedal feel like a toggle switch.

My JLUR will be on 35's and a daily driver with a very short commute to work and day trips out of town through the mountains about once a month. Next year I would like to try some 3 day overlanding trips here in the PNW. I think part of my hang up with the 2.0T is a turbo seems strange in a wrangler, but that's just me and I would get used to it, it's proven to be a good engine so far. I'm not excited about premium gas though.

For choosing an engine the most important considerations, in order, are reliability, enough power to feel confident in all driving conditions, range, fuel economy, and maintenance cost.
Old thread, but
Diesel!
And my house wolfs wanted a 4 door.
