Has anyone else noticed the front cup holders heat up their drinks? I had a Yeti in mine the other day on a long drive and when I picked it up the bottom was really hot. Since it's a Yeti the inside was still cold but I can imagine a regular water bottle or can or something getting warm or a shake melting.

If you ordered the Mopar Heated Cupholder Package you can heat your coffee to 180 degrees. If you want to add this later just order part #867-5309. The kit includes 2 cupholders, propane tank, and refillable butane lighter. I love leaving the campsite with a scalding hot cuppa joe!

Hadn’t really noticed on my JL.
But this was definitely an issue on my manual transmission TJ. I took some heat reflective sheets and used spray adhesive to line the underside of the center console and cup holders. Worked pretty well at keeping the heat down in the cup holders
.
I haven’t removed the console on the JL, but there might be room on the underside to coat it.

I am a cyclist and place my cycling water bottles in the cup holder. They do not get heated.

I forgot to mention it's a 2021 JLUR manual. I'm making another long drive today so I'll have to check again to see if it happens again.

I have watched the video from Coyote Works when this happened to him. He was way out in the desert. He remained calm. Got the important stuff out of his Jeep, dug a fire stop around the Jeep and stopped the fire from spreading and sat in his chair and filmed while it burnt down.

What a guy! You could tell he was a bit rattled, but geeze, who wouldn't be. Watching it, I was thinking he was potentially making a bad decision using more water to fight the fire, leaving less for him to survive on. But he mentioned he had another 6 gallons of water. He knew his resources and gear, no question. I think he knew as soon as he had his emergency pack that he would not have to worry about surviving more than a day out there. He had his communication device and likely had made contact with his recue resources.

When he mentioned he was rescued early the next morning, it reminded me of decades ago when I got some calls in the night. One was to rescue a friend's girlfriend about 70 miles east where her VW broke down in the middle of the night. I got out of bed and was on the road in 10-15 minutes. Another was a friend that had a head-on in his jeep on a winding road south of Eureka, CA and called from the hospital to ask if I could come up with a trailer and retrieve his jeep. I owned neither a truck nor a trailer at the time, but had both, and a driving buddy, and was headed 650 miles north by sunrise. It's good to have friends.

The one thing that strikes me about the fire, at least the early flame source area, is that it is right where the fuel line comes up along the bellhousing to the back of the engine. The plastic fuel line on these JLs, anyway. If the JK and JL share this characteristic, I would bet that's what fed the fire to burn so intensely and spread quickly. I'm really disappointed automakers use plastic on fuel lines these days.

You are the type of friend that I try to be and I have friends like you. I have many long term friends. After getting into Jeeps, I got a new Jeeping friend, great dude. We would often wheel and camp together. One Saturday afternoon, I get a call from him. He says that he is out Jeeping and has gotten stuck and is unable to get out. He tells me where he is and it is about 130 miles away and asked if I can come rescue him and his wife. I am in the middle of some stuff, and say, Its going to take me about 15 minutes to gather my stuff and I will head out. There is a deep pause, and he says, Don't worry bud, I am good, I was just checking to see if you would come get me if I needed it. A test one might say..... I tease him about it to this day. I passed the test he called the fair weather friend or a friend test....

Sounds like the boy who cried wolf to me, just might tell him I'm on the way next time... and test his patience.

He was not crying wolf, he followed up with, that he keeps his circle of friends small and only keeps quality people in his life. He is a great guy. Like we were traveling this year, and Carla wanted a new camper, I keep my money in the market, so it takes a day or two to get access to larger amounts of cash. Gary is like, here is $25,000 in cash go get it and pay me back when you can. I ended up not buying the camper as it was just to much for the Jeep. Gary usually has cash on him. Gary was giving me a ride up to pick up my Jeep from it getting re-geared, I left the house and forgot to grab my wallet. Not something that I would normally do. We were about two miles from the house, I am like fuck, turn around, I forgot my wallet. He was like, I got you and paid the bill. He lives close by, so when I got home, grabbed money out of the safe and took it over tom him. He is a real dude and a great friend and I have reciprocated the same type of friendship back to him. He is ride and die kind of guy. The kind you call to bury a body...
