@MauiSteve

Actually, the @Redline Tuning Struts they have specifically for the 392 hood, work great.... they do the deed well.

Per Redline Tuning posts:

The gas springs for the Mojave system are 25% stronger due to the steel hood.

The gas springs for the 392 system are 50% stronger due to all the plastic cladding directing air attached to the underside of the hood.
I put the Redlines on both my JL and my Mojave. I just ordered 2 sets and did not specify that one set would be for the Mojave. It still lifts and holds that heavy hood without a problem. It may not last to 100K but that's my fault for not buying a Mojave Edition set. They're the same price, I just clicked +2 when I put the JLs in the cart.

As for the company logo on the side, I kinda like it.

Anyone else put hood shocks in their JL?
Got some from online, and the new ones work spectacular! Better than the ones I had before.

They pop out easily if you need the hood to lay on the windshield.

Just a point of info on the Stabilus, the part numbers indicate what the strut's specs are. We use them in a factory environment at work. They come in MANY lengths, extension distance, weight capacity, and connector style. Heavier hoods (392) would likely be spec'd with a higher pressure strut.

Use too high a pressure, and your hood would shoot up when you release the latch. If your hood sinks slowly, usually only one shock is failing. You should be able to tell which it is by pulling/pushing it by hand. While we replace them in pairs at work, you could probably replace the bad one to save money. The Stabilus are easily disconnected from the mounts by loosening a spring clip on the end. (Those clips will fly away if you're not careful!) I'm surprised that dealership mechanics don't know this. Stabilus is OEM on a LOT of cars...

***EDIT*** My JL's struts can be removed by taking a nut off the threaded mount. At work, ours are attached to permanently mounted balls, so we undo the clips. I believe my kit was a "Rival". Removing the nut is FAR easier than "unclipping"!

Check warranty. They should last a LOT longer than that. We have these struts (NOT Redline) on machines at work that hold up covers. These "hoods" are opened and closed countless times per day, and the struts easily last year or more.

When I ordered the kit for my JL, I wasn't surprised to find they were the same brand name- Stabilus Lift-O-Mat. Not sure if Redline makes their own, or rebadges the Stabilus, but for Jeep purposes, they should last years...
The Redlines are warrantied for 4 years and the Rival Stabilus are Life Time warranty.

Those are the ones I had at first. 8 or 9 months and they just didn't keep the hood up anymore, it'd slowly close on me.

That's unfortunate 😕. We have had a set on our MY18 for 6 years without issue. Still need to get a set for my Willy. 😂

I thought I’d be smart and buy a Chinese knock-off from Amazon for half the price of the Redline kit. They got sent back the moment I opened the package. I could tell right away that the brackets weren’t gonna last long because of how thin they were.

The Redline kit has been going strong for a few years now.

In regard to the logo on the Redline Hood Strut offering..... the logo on each peels off easily and there is no remaining residue after you peel them off.

I did remove the logo and I added the carbon fiber covers offered/sold by @Redline Tuning.

Terrific offering the Redline tuning offering is. No way would I buy and install another brand of hood lift struts..

For those that want hood lift struts, I strongly encourage you to go with the Redline Tuning offering. Read here and when you order use the forum discount code.

Bought these in July 2022 before I even took delivery of my Jeep based on your recommendation and others. Still going strong. If you wait two years to remove the decals like I did, a dab of goof off or goo gone or similar on a paper towel will easily remove any small amount of leftover adhesive.

Have to rain on everyone’s parade here. Installed Redline struts on the wife’s 2019 JLUR the day we got it home, new. They lasted about 4 years before they got a tad too soft for my liking… fine.

The new ones we replaced them with didn’t keep a large rat from getting in and peeing all over her battery. Defective!

Did they fail just beyond the 4-year warranty period? What did you replace the Redlines with?

That is why I went with the Rivals because they are using the German-made Stabilus shock/strut and they have a Lifetime Warranty.

Oh. Don’t take that seriously. It was a joke post about a rat getting into my wife’s Jeep.

The struts didn’t fail — they just lost some gas like all hood struts do over time and I replaced them with new Redlines. The most I’ve gotten out of any hood struts in any vehicle here is 6 years. I replace them well before they wouldn’t hold the hood up.

IMO it’s a great product and works as expected. I even use the quick disconnect feature from time to time when I need to work on the engine. I’ll probably get the same ones again later.

In regard to a hood lift offering for a JL /JT or on any motor vehicle... I want quick disconnects on the struts. Also, I am very concerned about the direction the gas struts are mounted / reside once installed.

Gas struts contain oil inside the body.
The oil is to lubricate the seal. This lubrication is to ensure the performance and life expectancy of the springs are maintained. For this reason, the proper orientation of a Compression Gas Spring is rod down. Do research this if you think otherwise..

I want to buy from an established company in the USA that is there for me.. a USA company that I can easily message / contact and have them be there for me.

Redline Tuning
is such a company. I know I and other's here can attest to the fact that Redline Tuning is lets says hands on in regard to their product offerings.

You have a question, a concern, need a part, they are easy to contact and they do get right back to you AND they do back their product.
.

Anyway, the Redline Tuning offering fills all of my wants.. Also, the pricing of their offering is very competitive... another factor that means something to me is that @Redline Tuning is a long time forum sponsor.

Thousands of JL / JT owner's and owner's of various brands of motor vehicles have purchased Redline Tuning Hood Lift Struts and for good reason.

Disclaimer:

Other then my being a very happy purchaser and user of their product... I am in no way shape or form associated with Redline Tuning.

YES, I am a real fanboy of Redline Tuning Hood Lift Struts... just as I am a fanboy of say Diode Dynamics, Threedom, SmartStopStart , Bestop, Genesis and a few other forum sponsors.. Yes, I support our forum sponsors that are lets say 110% there for forum members. Yes, I am guilty of talking up known to be excellent products offered by our sponsors.
