No I see it less after the jeep has been running a bit. When I first started up both times today I've felt it suddenly get harder to turn just backing down the driveway. The first ten mins of driving it seems to immediately tighten up the steering at 50mph and then b.c. around 60mph it gets even stiffer. It really feels like the speed sensitivity in the steering has gone silly. After driving it a few minutes , it mostly goes away except every now and then It again feels like someone is holding onto the wheel. It's a very odd feeling. Today is the first time its happened to me. I've put 14000 miles on my jl in 7 months so I know the vehicle intimately.

Does the binding go away after everything is warmed up even with cold ambient temperatures? If so, sounds like you need TSB-08-092-18 and your steering box is set too tight. The TSB changes the electric hydraulic pump settings. From what I understand, it increases pressure at highway speeds.

So today it's a little on the cold side. I jumped into the Jeep to grab some lunch. Pulled out of my neighborhood onto the highway and get up to 60mph. The car in front of me decides to pretty much stop in my lane. Very little time to react, I try to turn into the lane to my right and the steering feels really stiff like the tire is against something then suddenly there is no resistance causing me to overcorrect and nearly lose control of the Jeep. Sitting on the side of the road, the steering feels normal. I speed back up and as I get up to around 50-60mph the steering suddenly feels very tight again, not wanting to turn more than 15-20 degrees, then it goes away and a bit further down the road it suddenly comes back. I think Litebrite had a video of this a while back. I've never had any steering issues with my JL. It drives absolutely great but I have to say this is TERRIFYING because it felt like someone was holding the steering wheel to prevent me from turning and then suddenly just let go causing over correction. Does anyone know if this issue has ever been resolved or what the cause is?

My steering is still sloppy but better since the ambient temps have been 40-50 deg. When it was 80 a week ago it was really sloppy.... Gearbox oil viscosity is thicker when cold making the steering seem stiffer.

I have the exact same issue. The jeep was sitting at work all day out in 40 degree weather. At the end of the day I got in it and headed home. For the first 15 miles of highway driving it had a hard time turning left. Strong resistance when you begin turning left and then the resistance is just gone and the jeep darts left. Freaked me out. As soon as I got off the highway (right next to my jeep dealer) it went away.

Please let me know what FCA/ jeep care says. This needs to be fixed but I know as soon as I pull it into a dealer it's going to magically disappear.

This is one time when you actually need to use your left turn signal , before it darts left .

my steering did the same thing on me Saturday morning in Moab. It was about 40 degrees headed out of town to the trail and the dam jeep didn't turn until I got under 50 or so. Scared the shit out of us both. It also did it this morning pulling out of the parking lot at very low speed.
