`He said they've seen this before and the issue was coolant leaking into cyl #2, which ended up being a total engine replacement.
This happened to a member of the forum. Her engine was changed under warranty.
got home and crawled all over it looking for signs of a leak. Nothing in the engine bay, no smells of coolant, no stains on the garage floor.....
Was the coolant level low?

I have a strong suspicion that this will be the case this time as well. I have to call them this afternoon to see if there is any updates. Yes, the coolant was low.

Got word yesterday that they will be dropping in a new engine. The service writer advised me that there was significant scoring in cylinders 1 and 4 along with some pitting. I asked what caused the failure and he replied that it was ran hard when the temps were hot. I told him that is unlikely because when the temps spiked, I was sitting still at an idle and then when I hit the gas the temps would go to the normal....ish range. My though process tells me that there is an oil starvation issue that caused the scoring and possible a casting issue which led to the pitting. Maybe one of you in here with a bigger brain that mine could either confirm or deny my thoughts. Either way they're going to warranty the engine and said that it should be delivered in 5 ish days. I'm guessing that it'll be another couple of weeks before I see my Jeep back in the driveway.

We have seen reports of cracks in the hardware which allow hot coolant to escape into the cylinders. This damages the cylinders beyond repair. Fortunately, these engines have been replaced under warranty.

I spoke with the Service manager who is a very good friend of mine and he said more than likely it's a HG failure, and definitely a warranty replacement.

A head gasket failure?

Does a head gasket just get up one day and fail? Does the head gasket fail because there is something wrong and the vehicle is overheating? That is the question.

Coming from the world of built Cummins engines, I'm all too familiar with blown head gaskets. This did not show any of the symptoms that I would have expected. My Cummins was pushing over 60lbs of boot, and dynoed 725/1130 to the wheels. Even with a set of ARP head studs I had a very hard time keeping a head gasket in one piece. When it would let go you could hear it gurgle in the heater core as soon as you shut the truck off, it would spike the temps and go back to normal (only similar symptom), and the upper rad hose would swell. That was a HEAVILY modified build, this on the other hand is not. The motor and all internals are bone stock. IF it was a HG failure, something definitely caused it. However, I'm not sure that they would be able to pinpoint it.

In my experience a blown head gasket is a symptom of a problem. Once it has been damaged, this leads to other problems.

I would love to hear from those who have had other experiences.

Got the jeep back today and actually talked to the tech that did the repair. I asked him what the point of failure was. He said that he believed it was a blown head gasket. Chrysler would not let them tear into it since it was a warranty repair.
My question is this…..what’s the normal operating temperature for a 2.0t? I’m currently seeing a fluctuation between 194° and 215°

The bolts on the water pump inlet pipe, have a tendency to come loose. I suggest that you check that area first.

Can anyone identify which coolant a 2020 2.0L turbo engine takes? I believe it is the HOAT, but not sure. Also color of coolant to use?
Nope, it takes MOPAR OAT 50/50 Mix antifreeze.

The average operating range of my 2.0T is similar: 195° through 202° or so in regular warm weather driving. Figure an average of 199°, with it being a pinch lower when the mercury drops.

The highest I've seen to date is 215°, but that was only when towing a loaded motorcycle trailer in the heat of July, and then only when traveling at posted Interstate speed limits.
