Also after getting the V41 steering damper done , I think the steering feels a little tighter, feels better, handles better.
I had my V41 recall done yesterday. After picking it up last night and driving it home the steering felt more loose. Then this morning driving to work i drove across a bridge joint and experienced death wobble for the first time. It is now back at the dealership. The steering dampener was installed correctly.
Hi Chuck,Just had my V41 work done, along with an oil change. When I got home I took a look at the new damper and noticed the sticker with the arrow pointing the wrong way. Got on this forum (which is the best thing ever) and got my suspicions confirmed -- that it was installed incorrectly.
My dealership's service department is completely incompetent, so this doesn't surprise me. Last time I had it in for two different issues, they were unable to fix either.
Oh, and also, I thought I'd check their work regarding my oil ... and they added 6 qts instead of 5. I really want to be pissed, but at this point it's just laughable.
Getting the work corrected, it's just a huge unnecessary hassle. When my warranty expires, I'll never return to this dealership.
BTW, regarding the recall, I never had any DW or steering issues before, and I've hit significant bumps on highways up to 85 mph.
Hi Mike,I haven't read through this thread so forgive me if I repeat information already covered. I have had steering issues since I bought my JL in July of last year and have been following some of the other threads regarding this issue. I got the V41 recall done, which I do not expect to fix the wander. While I was there they advised me there was a recall for the track bar that is supposed to fix the wandering and need for constant corrections. Has anybody had this done? I declined to have it done since I have an RK 2.5" lift. Just curious if anybody had it done and if that was truly "the fix," that we have all been searching for.
Hi ColoradoRubicon,Update so far...
Dealership called and said the recall part looks and checks out good. They found some play in my track bar so they have a replacement on its way and should be in tomorrow. I hope this is all it is. Up until the V41 I’ve had zero issues. I just don’t understand some of these components and how they can affect the steering in this manner.
I do not have a U62 listed for my JLU could be that mine was not built until 8-18 and the U62 was sent out in june 2018?Did you get the u62 done?
Just got mine back today v41. Feels better on bumps.
I asked service lady about U62 she says I can get that done free as well but was not done to mine.
So now I called my local dealer to bring the Jeep in to get it inspected and get the recall cleared while they are calibrating for 35” tires. The dealer says that they can’t just inspect the installed Fox Shox stabilizer and mark it complete. They have to actually replace the stabilizer. So they will be replacing a part that I have already paid for and been reimbursed for by FCA. They will be saving my Fox stabilizer for me. Seems like a waste to replace a part 2x. Guess I can see if the new part is better than the Fox and decide what I want to do.It's (sort of) unbelievable that we're getting inconsistent results and responses for the same issue. You'd think they'd have a single, scripted response for each result to distribute. Telemarketers are a scourge, but at least they're organized.
Of course... good Lord.So now I called my local dealer to bring the Jeep in to get it inspected and get the recall cleared while they are calibrating for 35” tires. My wife took this picture with her today to have the dampener changed. They had it wrong. Took it back and they flipped it the right way.
Advisor said it wouldn’t matter. I didn’t argue with him as it was installed the way it was supposed to be.
If you have your done check before you leave with it. Cause it will make a difference in the way it rides.
More than likely where there made they speak no English !Absolutely MIND BLOWING that some stickers were installed wrong! Embarrassing enough a recall is needed for a simple damper and then this. A recall needed on the recall??? Hmmmmmm.......
By the way.... dampers have been used like this for decades, so still trying to grasp why all the sudden a design change is needed on something this basic. Anyone else confused by this?
