I drive on one of the widest highways known to man daily, guess what, the above advice of look in mirror, check blind spot, signal my intention to change lanes, and match speed work pretty darn well. And I guarantee that I've driven bigger trucks on the highway than your little short bus. And those are still the procedures to follow.
