Does that go for people driving slower i

Not disagreeing with what you said but there are some truck drivers on the roads that shouldn’t be driving also.

If I need to cut a semi, I always go way ahead of the driver and stay in my lane with my signal on for a couple seconds to make sure the trucker is prepared for me to move in. Do you truckers appreciate that or wonder wtf I'm doing?
Since this is an act rarely seen on the road they are propably wondering WTF... :like:

I had a guy whip out of the turn lane where he was waiting for the light to jump in front of me and stop a few hundred feet ahead at a no u-turn sign so he could make a u-turn. I was doing all of 35 but fully loaded. His rear bumper was in his back seat. The cop asked him why he did this and his explanation was that he was so low on gas he did not think he could idle at the light. Guess he was not worried about running out of gas as they winched his car onto the flatbed...

Dented my bumper...

Just spent about 6 hours plowing snow in a snow/ice storm. Saw speeds of over 45 mph in the bigger parking lots and speeds of 60+ mph on the hyw. Not bragging, just don't think its that big of a deal. If you drive on snow or ice a lot. It is not as traumatizing as some make it out to be.

When we have a clear indication of what you are doing, and you give us time to prepare for it, we sincerely appreciate it :)

Just a quick little tidbit though ... the later in the day it gets, the less alert a commercial driver will be. The vast majority of commercial drivers work a day shift of some sorts. Afternoon/early evening is usually the end of their day, and they've probably been working for about 10 to 12 hours by this point.

If you're able to do 70 mph in a snow storm, you don't need 4 wheel drive engaged.

All 4 wheeled vehicles come with 4 wheel brakes. Going is rarely a problem but stopping is.
Just takes common sense snd in some cases no sense.

The problem is not going fast in snow. The problem is coming to an emergency stop. If you were in a legit snowstorm and needed to brake fast the vehicle or person ahead of you on the highway would've been screwed. I don't see how that's worth it for anybody just to get home a bit sooner. Everyone's invincible until they're not.

No real problem is people don't make accurate assessments of their vehicle's capabilities, their driving capabilities. I am not advocating that if you don't know how to drive in snow to drive 65 mph and tailgate people. Maybe you should stay home on those days. I am not advocating that if you are diving 65 mph in a snow storm that you should tailgate other drivers.I am not advocating that If you can't see, drive faster.

What I am saying is that one driver that is driving way slower on the HYW, with 100+ cars stacked up behind them should get off the HYW. They are creating a problem. If the majority of the drivers are driving 20+ mph faster than you, get out of the way. Take and exit ramp or pull over and let everyone go by. You are creating a hazard.

I commuted about 80 miles a day for 30 years with most of it on the HYW in Michigan. I have drove on shitty roads. Michigan roads are some of the worst roads in the Nation. When we have big snow storms, I tend to take un plowed back roads over the HYW because there is always one lane plowed on the Hyw and some Asshat driving 45 in it with cars back up for a mile behind them. Then there is always another Asshat that swings out into the unplowed lane and tries to pass a row of 50 to 100 cars. That then causes problems. I prefer not to be around those people. Unfortunately the driver that is going slow on the HWY brings them all together.

Do I drive faster than most on bad roads, yes. Do I have more experience than most at driving on bad roads, yes. I have not been in an accident in over 40 years, and I have not slid off the road in icy/winter conditions in 40 years. I am just saying don't be the Asshat that has 50+ cars piled up behind you on the HYW. If you do not feel comfortable get off the HYW. Your comfort level should not be what dictates everyone behind you. Check your ego and move over or better yet turn around and go home.

This is one of those "hold my beer moments"...........

I'm a DIE HARD Dodge/Plymouth/Chrysler/Jeep, whatever fan. It's in my blood.

I also happen to be a independent contract Joining engineer in Detroit (Hereafter known as DeToilet), currently working at........... Dearborn Michigan at the Rouge factory building the world a better F-150.

Don't get me wrong... the F-150 is one nice truck....... bad ass if you configure it one way and comfy as hell if you go the other.

With our 7-10 inch snowfall overnight while the late shift worked it was humorous how many people had to go out and uncover their trucks. At the end of the day they were all out there dusting off stuff and kicking down snowdrifts........ I walked out to my warm jeep (thank you Uconnect guardian), put her in reverse and backed over the 2 foot pile of snow the plow pushed up against everyone. Apparently a lot of F-150's don't love snow........ they were waiting for their owners to push most of it out of the way.

The expressways were filled with the usual DeToilet drivers....... those in old full size SUV's with original tires from the 90's and the many with any FWD car and 3 inches of ground clearance, all of which feel the need to enter an empty 5 lane expressway and go IMMEDIATELY ALL THE WAY TO THE LEFT!

I could have put it in 2 and struggled with stability to do 60+, but I chose 4HI and locked it down in the slow lane of I-75, did my 45 to 55 and laughed at all the dumbasses.

You just need to know your vehicle.

Newbie question. It's recommended to go into 4WD less than 45mph. What if I'm going 70 and hit a snow storm? Must I slow down on the interstate?

On the JK Rubicon, the max speed 2H - 4H was 55 mph. On the JL Rubicon it is 45 mph due to the addition of the FAD. Slow down to 45 mph when shifting the T-case and be kind to your Jeep.

Driving home from Grand Haven Michigan to Lansing on Monday. Between Grand Haven and Grand Rapids, I saw approximately 30 vehicles in the ditch along I-96. The Hyw was free of snow, but completely iced over. At times speeds were below 5 mph and up to 40 mph. I could have pulled most of the vehicles out of the ditch. I was in my Jeep, and had all of my recovery gear with me. How many did I stop for, none. there was to much traffic. I imagine that some of those people waited 4 or more hours for a tow truck. Normally the drive between Grand Haven to Grand Rapids is about half a hour. It took about one and a half hours. On a side note, the Light house on the pier in Grand Haven was awesome.

This post sounds like a whole lot of no thank you to me. As much as I hate the CA politics, between the winters, the humid summers, and mayflies, I wonder why anyone lives anywhere from New England to Wyoming. We tried northern Pennsylvania for a year and the summers were worse than the winters for me. I'll stay in the south west where I can drive up to the snow in an hour or 2 and never have to deal with it otherwise.

FAD = Front Axle Disconnect. It prevents the front drive shaft from rotating when you are in 2WD by disconnecting the front right axle. It was a surprise to me too.
