Agreed. Although it really should be standard on a 392... Should be standard on all Wranglers really for the price Jeep charges for these things.Ordered the front camera on my 392 XR. One of the best options for close quarters maneuvering, imho. Do it!
how has this been working out for you guys? I just bought/received one yesterday (thanks Azptimus Prime) and the screen seems really small. They have same unit with a much bigger screen for RVs but seems more of a chore to put on the dash
I use this better camera on my TJR and my JLR and it's vastly better than nothing but sucks compared to the factory camera. That's why I'm selling my JLR and getting a new JLUR with a front camera. The JLR has the small screen so there's no way to get the good factory camera.how has this been working out for you guys? You can order a Romesh Ranganathan JL hood cam. UK VAT fees may cost more than it's worth.Just put the wife on the hood. You get audio feedback that way too.
This should help. This convinced me to get it
Yes -- the "clean camera" function is about as close to the "release oil to foil the car behind you" feature we're gonna get, I thinkUsing the info from @BDinTX I moved my front trail cam to my skid since the view was mostly blocked by the bumper hoop. Also in the factory location going up a steep incline all you get is a nice view of blue sky. Now I can see my front tire placement and it allowed me install the Bolt hood lock. For trail use it is close to worthless. For mall crawling it can be helpful to see if there is a shopping cart in front of you. IMO the only way it would be worth it is if it was connected to a recording device to be used in lieu of a dash cam.
I used my rear camera from the WolfBox dash cam up front for that. Works pretty well.Does anyone have experience with the front camera? I'll be ordering a new JL soon and I'm considering getting the front camera. Is it worth the money? My main concern is when you're climbing a steep hill and all you can see is the sky is that what you are going to see on the camera or will you be able to see the trail?
The trail cam is close to worthless on the trail? I use it all the time. It's especially useful on trails like Hell's Revenge where you'd otherwise have to climb out to figure out which direction the trail goes since you're looking at nothing but sky.For trail use it is close to worthless. How about this? Camera wired into aux switch under hood...monitor plugged in only when needed:My experience with it:
1. Sun glare on rocks and dirt wash out the quality of the image when on the trail.
2. The trails here in CA are very dusty. It only takes a few minutes before the lens is covered in dust. Using the washer only turns it to mud and then makes the dust stick easier.
3. Since the quality of the image is so bad, when going up and over inclines I have found myself looking at the screen trying to figure out what I am looking at while at the same almost driving over a cliff that is on the other side of the ledge from not paying attention to what is out my windshield/window.
4. It's a pain in the arse to keep turning the camera on when the screen switches options.
I said "close" to worthless since I give it maybe a 2 out of 10.
Here is the unit I ended up going with installed...wired into aux switch #4.How about this? Camera wired into aux switch under hood...monitor plugged in only when needed:

Simple, good night vision, adjustable width lines (or online option). I added the dash tray with the adjustable arm (went with one that has the ball closer to driver so as not to obstruct view out of the windshield). I like this setup because then I don't have to use the possible factory option that cycles off...and I can use my head unit at the same time with whatever I'm running from wireless Android auto (like a map). The other plus is it only took me about 30 minutes to install this, and it is completely reversible. Here is the unit I ended up going with installed...wired into aux switch #4.
