FAD Delete

I have a PR44 and have noticed no difference in highway driving, it feels like stock EXCEPT my stock TB allowed some shimmy which went away with an aftermarket TB.
I may have lost a half gallon in MPG, but maybe not. It’s so slight a difference in MPG I can’t really tell. On a trip home (Philly to Baltimore) with 25% city driving I still got 19+ MPG.

You guys getting rid of the electrical gizmo that works the FAD. Be nice to ditch it rather then hanging there doing nothing.

I'm on the fence. With RCV's the difference in strength of a two piece FAD and one piece unit is less then 5%. The axle is 18% bigger and twice as strong as OEM. That 5% less strength it is pretty darn small when you consider everything.

I just unplugged my FAD motor and zip tied the plug somewhere.

Yup, that's where I'm at. My shop guy has the one piece unit on his JT and he says he can feel the difference and was considering going back to FAD.

If ever there is a hub conversion that comes out FAD is GONE! Until then Thinking it's not a big deal.

Yeah I wanted to believe it didn't matter but driving in 4hi at highway speed I could definitely tell.

Now it *could* have been the t-case powering the front output but I very much feel it was the front d/s spinning

For now I'll deal with FAD.

That's what he claims, he could feel it spinning. He also added that he REALLY listens to that stuff being a shop owners so he is more sensitive to it than probably others.

If it bothers you enough you could easily sell the single unit a purchase the FAD type.

I talked to TeraFlex and they have no kit yet for the JL's and locking front hubs like they do for the JK. They have tons of other kits to work on so the priority isn't there. They didn't say they were going to make one in the future and the didn't say they wouldn't. I suspect they will since many don't care for FAD that much and way more reason to build one on a JL than a JK without FAD.

Is yours a jl? I read my 2019 sahara may need a reprogram update for the computer to be happy.

yes, I have. 2019 JL. I use a taser and have had no issues for the 3 years and 50k miles since I’ve done this.

Thanks I looked it up. Taking it back to the offroad place since I PAID THEM SO MUCH. BUY IF THEY STILL CANT FIGURE OUT i may get me one of those and put a straight axle in. Everything is smooth when its all locked in.

And an update , as of 2024 any model with the Xtreme Recon HD front diff come from factory with the FAD delete. The 392 has always come with the delete.

Good to know re the Xtreme Recon HD. Unfortunately, the FAD casting itself is still there, at least on the 392.
