Yes, the FCA QA and engineering should have investigated the issue and found the root cause and then formed corrective action to correct production going forward. Then theres the question of what to do about products in service. There could be different treatment of products under warranty, and those beyond warranty.

The issue may occur inconsistently, which would explain why only some product is affected.

I spent a good part of my career in aerospace chasing engineering and production problems and getting them fixed.
If/when mine fails, on either of my vehicles with this engine, I’ll see if I can get the cam material tested. I’ve been trying to get our rep with Jasper to look into this issue but they haven’t started building and selling the PUG1 engine yet.

Just keep in mind most cast iron camshafts are only surface hardened by induction or flame hardening processes. On some of the photos of the worn out camshafts I've seen, I could see the hard layer transitions in the surface. The hard layer can specified as little as .020" thick. Cams are often rough machined, then hardened, followed by finish grinding.

Any opinion on melling timing kit?
I don't. They're a well known manufacturer. Beyond that I have no experience with their parts on pentastar engines.

IIRC, you need to re-use your pressure sensor from the old housing or buy a new sensor.

Picked up the block, they didn’t install the old oil pump, I’ve ordered new, seems obvious now. Ordered full timing kit, all seals, gaskets, head bolts. Interesting, they break in with 5w30 Dino oil.

I just used 0w20 synthetic to break in mine. I think i just went a few hundred miles of combined surface street and short highway trips, with some high throttle in there. Running it at max torque rpm at full throttle puts the most force on the rings against the bore and a good break in. It doesn't take many miles. The only other break in necessary is the cams.

Change the oil around 300-500 mile range or sooner. Run the best oil you decide on. Change it in short intervals. Use a OEM/Purolator/Wix or Fram Ultra oil and air filter. Hopefully, that keeps it in good health.

Seems I’ve misplaced the oil pump mounting bolts, can’t seem to find a part number anywhere. Or I head to pick apart

Anyone know?
It's listed as a M6x1.0 x 25mm long. It's very likely an 8.8 or 10.8 grade flanged bolt. It's shown as discontinued per my sources.

Are the Mopar exhaust valves coated or it out carbon, shouldn’t it look like regular steel like the intakes?

this is an intake that has a sea barnacle growing on it lol, what the heck is it? I’m going to buy new exhaust valves rather deal with it

The left intake cam is missing material on the lobes for the rollers not valve lobes, I assume it and the new style vvl rocker arms will need replaced?
