Great, you posted a pic of the hood underside without the sound deadener material! I will add that pic to any future posts I make in regard to the functional side vents and hood vents. I will also edit the pic into past posts about the vents that I have made..

I already mention in all my posts about the vents, that air flow is indeed impaired but regardless they are functional vents.

Again, thanks @Slaughter for taking the time to pull the hood sound deadener and taking the pic.

Do you consider this actually functional? To me, this is like eating oatmeal through a straw.

Thanks for posting that! When my JL gets here I'll be opening those vents.

I purchased my 2018 Jeep Wrangler Sahara JLU last month and I did not have to use the A/C for awhile. It was 90+ degrees here in SC over the weekend and I had the A/C cranking. I noticed the engine cooling fan sounded like a jet engine about to take off, if you lower the A/C fan speed it also lowers the engine fan. I know this is normal but it being that loud is very annoying, my 2013 JKU Sport engine cooling fan was quiet!!!

Well my 2018 JLU is pretty loud but I can live with it as long as it’s doing it’s job of keeping things cool.

Why is the fan so loud when the engine is cold? If would seem it would be that loud possibly if it were hot from driving or a restart with a hot engine. Mine sat out yesterday for 10 hours off. Started up and the fan was loud. Not sure why it would do that with a cold engine. There has to be an issue with the fan algorithm. Any TSB on this?

It's just the way the computer is programmed for the A/c. If your a/c is on when you turn the Jeep on then it'll start up the fan. Just pretend you are a pilot and talk to your passengers about taxing to the runway.

Just saw (heard) a new Sahara idling in the parking lot. I could hear that fan clear across the lot.

Loudest fan ever. Crazy.

Maybe the 19’s will be quieter lol.

Mine is ridiculously loud. I haven’t heard a fan that loud since the 80’s or on a big rig. Took mine in for its first oil change and to have the fan checked. My dealer has a enclosed drive thru and when I pulled in with the a/c on full and that cooling fun running full blast you shoulda seen the looks and comments I got. But when we got the vehicle back they said it was normal. My wife had to actually shut the jeep off when she went to order in a drive thru they couldn’t hear her over the fan.

I recently test drove a Sport, Sahara, and Rubi. I tested the fan on all three, when the AC was set to MaxAir...they all howled loudly! Not very noticeable on the open highway at normal speed, even with the windows open. But when I pulled back into the dealership, I had to close the windows to be able to talk to the passenger. But hitting the MaxAir button....the fan noise was not too loud.

The crazy thing is even with that loud assed fan, the A/C just doesn't cool very well. I got in my Jeep today, it was around 94 degrees and it took at least 10 minutes before the air even felt cool coming out of the vents. It eventually gets very cold, but my JK was blowing cold air within about 2 minutes of starting. Just another disappointment from the JL.

My a/c cools the cabin off very quick!! The fan is super loud though, as we all know. But I can live with it bc I know there is nothing wrong with my Jeep. I love my JLU.
