First time I drove a diesel JL was driving mine off the lot after writing the check. It's exactly what I thought it would be.....probably more. Add a throttle controller and I can't imagine you'd be disappointed. I enjoy driving the Jeep more than my last 3 cars, all BMWs.

So I've read people are getting much worse DEF mpg they Jeep advertises.

What usage levels are you guys seeing?

I didn't pay attention to whether mine was full on delivery. But I've added 4 bottles (2.5 gal each) in the nearly 9,000 miles on mine. Over 1/2 tank left.

Its certainly greater than the 5 gallons per 10,000 miles that Jeep stated, but its not something to lose sleep over. I have found a local truck stop that I can get it at the pump, and its probably half the cost of buying the jugs . . . but even putting a 2.5 gallon jug in whenever the level drops below the 1/2 mark isn't gonna break the bank.

Not a deal breaker. Just curious.

Unfortunately I don't think there is a gas station with a DEF pump near me - would be very convenient.

I've been going to Love's Truck stops (fairly common in AZ) and you can dispense DEF from the pumps the large trucks use . . . not the passenger car pumps. That's where I go to weigh my rig after installing new mods . . . the CAT scales are convenient.

I'm at about 3% DEF for fuel consumption, which I've read is about industry standard.

Just about any fuel station with pumps for semis will have a DEF nozzle next to each diesel nozzle. I always feel weird lining up with all the big rigs in my Jeep, especially because I have to go in to prepay.

It's usually only at truck stops.

So like you, Im in a situation where I cant test drive much. Had a JKU 17 and a gladiator. Im done w/ the 3.6. Old people are tried and tested but that doesn't mean their still good. lol! ..I like the 2.0 but not the lag and it is a 4 cylinder no matter what. , 3.6 etorque is no different than 3.6. Maybe if u spend an afternoon you'll spot the slight difference. 392 i cant afford. So my question is WHY DIESEL? Can anyone sum it up in a sentence for us? Ive beaten this forum the last couple weeks trying to get answers.

16,000 miles, on 4th DEF fillup. It's around $15 per jug. So, $0.0037 per mile. Or, a penny every 3 miles.

Frankly, if a penny every 3 miles is cause for concern, you (not "you" specifically, but "you" as in anyone) should consider another vehicle. Like, maybe, the bus.
