What is everyone's DEF usage? I feel like my '22 (now has 3250 miles on it) is drinking it. @ ~2350 miles, it told me that I had 500 mile till it would not start, unless I filled the DEF. Looking at the DEF gauge on the dash, it showed right below 1/4 tank of DEF left. No CEL and Vehicle Health Report all show normal.

Is that abnormally high usage, or what? I don't tow anything.

I do have an appt set up with my local dealership, but they couldn't tell me yes or now if it is excessive usage.

I clocked it and went about 1400 mile on a 2.5 gallon bottle before the low DEF light came on.

That seems excessive to me. I know there was a Recall/Update to prior years, for excessive usage, but don't think it included the '22. Just trying to gauge usage, s I know how to plan accordingly.

I put 4.5gals in at around 3300 miles, IIRC. Being it is listed as a 5.1gal tank, I reckon that “500 mile to fill” message was probably not far off.

That said, I’ve driven over 1000 miles since filling and the DEF gauge is still pegged at 100%. Maybe it uses less as it breaks in.

Also have a GDE tune and 37's but still getting about 24mpg on ave and just under 28 tooling around the Adirondacks last weekend.

In my first 1500 miles of driving it, I've gone through 1/4 of a DEF tank according to the gauge.

Put DEF in the other day. Strange to hear people complain about it. What a nothingburger.

No one is complaining about it. We are just wondering the expected/normal usage, so that it can be planned out (some of us take longer trips, and like to make sure we are prepared).

It seems to vary greatly so I have never seen any real numbers on it. Mine is under 1000 miles and has used very little so far. Maybe half a tick on the DEF monitor. Not sure if that is 1/8 tank tick marks.

DEF useage is roughly 3% of your diesel usage. Just track your mpg closely on a trip and start with a full tank of DEF (which is 5-ish gal).

My diesel has used DEF at a rate of 2.6% over 27k miles.

The immediate convo is not complaining but lots of people complain about having to put def in.

Maybe it is just a military mindset, but it is generally good planning to top off all fluids prior to long trips. I topped off on my forced move/mini-vacation from Colorado to New York, I also carried a small jug of it and put it in when we reached Ohio but it would've made it without it no problem. Unless you're going coast to coast or into upper Alaska I would think you'd be fine on a full tank. There are so many stores along the way to pick up more if it did get low that it's a non-issue.

Excellent point and it is a very easy process to fill up the DEF on a wrangler. One thing I do make sure is having a FULL DEF tank before off roading. Inclines, angles and such can through the gauge off.

How do you like the GDE tune? I've looked into it just a little but didnt see many posting about it

To be honest, that is a given (to me), It's not so much the trip preparation, but more the in-trip resupply that I am wanting to guesstimate.

@Gorilla57 nailed it. DEF consumption should be around 3% of fuel.

JL has a 5.1 gallon DEF tank. I have to fill mine every 3000-3300 miles. My 2018 Grand had an 8 gallon tank but I only had to fill that every 9-10k miles. When I got the JL I thought something must be wrong because I was having to fill the DEF tank so often but it has been within spec.
