To make a long story short. My main battery has been showing signs of weakening but since I commute 50klm one way everyday it seemed to be hanging on. I knew I’d need a new one before winter but wasn’t too concerned.
Well I was on a road trip for work which entailed a lot of short trips on and off with not too much run time between. After 4 days it finally happened, no start. Checked battery, voltage down to 7.8v, electronics going beserk, Christmas tree 🎄 on the dash. A local worker had a small booster pack, Jeep started but ran rough and died after a minute. Thinking it could be something more insidious I
Called a flatbead to come get me. Tow truck gave me a boost and ran good no Christmas tree. So, had the tow truck just drop me and the Jeep off at the local auto parts store where I bought a new battery and changed it in the parking lot.
Problem solved that easy, all lights gone, no check engine lights. Even the start stop seems to be activating more frequently.

I would deactivate ESS with StartStop Eliminator to save your battery/starter motor/valve train etc. You can turn ESS off or turn it on as you see fit. You can also upsize the battery by removing the spacer on the battery plate if you did not do that already. If you have the tow package then you get the bigger battery from the factory.

My e-torque system doesn’t use the starter for the start/stop. AAMOF the start/ stop is so seemless I don’t mind it at all. It doesn’t affect the valve train or starter and I do have a Tazer if I choose to disable it, personally it’s not an issue like the starter type start/stop. And yes I already have the big 94R battery.

Yeah if I had eTorque I probably wouldn't mind the ESS feature. How much are H7/94R batteries in your neck of the woods? I assume you can't import from US?

I got the AGM 94R 800 Cold Cranking Amp (CCA) from the local Canadian Tire for $325 cdn.

You are right, there is no starter motor with eTorque:
How it works:
  • Motor Generator Unit (MGU):
Instead of a starter motor, the MGU uses the 48-volt battery to spin the engine for quicker and smoother starts. It also acts as a generator to recharge the battery.

  • Torque Assist:
When you hit the gas, the eTorque system can add a supplemental boost of electric torque to the engine, especially at lower RPMs, for quicker acceleration.

  • Regenerative Braking:
The MGU can act as a generator during braking and coasting to recapture kinetic energy and store it in the 48-volt battery pack.

  • Smoother Shifting:
The system can also use the motor to provide "torque fill" during gear changes, which minimizes the jolt of shifting and provides a smoother overall driving experience.

  • Stop/Start Functionality:
It provides a much smoother transition to and from engine shutoff during idling compared to a traditional starter motor.
I just prefer to keep the engine running during frequent stops to keep the engine lubircated and to eliminate the constant deactivation and reactivation of various components such as the the MGU. The valve train failure incidents on this site are frequent enough to make me think that there is a potential problem with the lubricaiton system. There is a vendor that sells an oil filter adaptor to keep engine oil in the filter after shut down to instantly lube the motor on start up to fix this issue, I haven't bought it yet but I am thinking about it. BTW I do like the eTorque system a lot because if the benefits listed above, especially the additional torque on start up.

I believe that in the start/stop scenario there is more then enough lubrication on the valve train to keep it happy, unlike when your vehicle sits for days or weeks and all the oil runs off the components.
But it’s always something to keep in mind.

I replaced the 12v main battery. The 48v is fine.
Ah I just read it. If you suspect there's draw somewhere but you don't want to deal with it. Just install solar panel on your hood. I have 2 dash cams that run 24/7 and neither has turned off in MONTHS (since the day I installed the panel) AND I only drive 4 days out of the week.

Just a quick update:
Sooo, apparently the start/stop system on the E Torque is dependent on the health of the Main 12v . This last week since replacing the 12v battery the start/stop has worked much more frequently then it has for months.
