2023 Wrangler Rubicon Recon
Good morning everyone, New guy here and my first post! I purchased a 2023 Wrangler Rubicon extreme recon. it is the 3.6 with etorque. I want to add accessories and in the past have always disconnected the battery when I did.

I have read all the posts here related to the subject as well as my owner manual and some misc internet searches. The more I read the more confused I get.

I believe owners manual for etorque says to disconnect the two main negative battery cables on top of main battery. And isolate them separately. I have read some posts on this forum that I may need to disconnect the connections on the fender next to the battery?

Does someone have the definitive answer to what is needed procedurally do be sure all power is out before working on an e torque motor. I am sorry if this is a dumb question. I just have fear of setting of air bags or something else go wrong if I do this incorrectly.

Thanks guys and look forward to many more posts and learning a lot!

There is no such things as a "dumb question." Dumb is having a question and not asking it.

Remove cables from the Negative side of your Main battery and then separate and isolate each of those cables.

Hello. Thank you! That is what is weird the negative side has only one main heavy cable going to it. There is a stud in the battery with nothing connected to it where it looks like the otherwise small battery would have connected. Maybe the etorque only has one leed?

Here is a picture of the battery and it's only cable. I can take a picture of the fender ground if that helps which does have 2 heavy cables.

etorque has one cable on Negative side of Main battery.

So, leaning over the passenger side fender, on Neg side you find a threaded stud with nothing attached and the farthest has the cable.

To be honest, i responded via cellphone and missed you said etorque.

Disconnect 2 body grounds.

Carefully remove body grounds. Occasionally they are painted a bit and you can snap off with removal attempt.

There’s a few hour tech talk on YT from a fiat/Mopar engineer that designed the etq system for training dealer techs on how it works, maintenance and working on it. It’s fairly in depth but when I was doing my long arms and welding onto the frame I wasn’t sure the proper procedures on how to remove the battery and how to disconnect it for working on things, which is how I stumbled upon the video

TLDR: do as they say above, disconnect the main battery cables and you’ll be fine

little longer answer: there’s a contractor in yhe 48v battery pack that only closes when the Jeep is started/running and the 48v lines are disconnected when Jeep is off. Disconnecting the main 12v battery as normal procedure with any other normal vehicle is the correct procedure, and the 48v battery at that time will already be (and continue to be)safely disconnected.

if I find the video again I’ll update this post

Edit:
Here it is
most Of y’all will find this boring but I enjoy the in-depth tech talks (ala HPA)

Okay. I’m not very handy but can swap out a new battery, change flats, etc. I have the etorque as well. Will I have trouble when it is time to replace the battery(s)?

No it’s a fairly simple process to take it out when needed.

No because you will change out the normal 12v car battery under the hood just like any other battery. As for the 48v etorque battery under the Jeep it will be under warranty for longer than you’ll likely own the Jeep and even after that you would probably take it to a shop to change it.

Yeah no prob, give that video a watch if you’re more curious. I had to figure it all out on my own when I picked mine up as no one sold anything comparable with etq models so I had to go at it and reroute all the coolant lines for the battery pack, move the pump etx. If you have any questions about it feel free to PM, I’ve got lots of pics and part numbers if you run into trouble

My 12v is dying. What is the warranty period for these batteries? I have a 2021.

Edit: Just spoke to my dealer, 100% reimbursement up to 3 year/36,000 mi. Not pro-rated.
