I have no issues . But I always like to be prepared. I have only read about a couple of 48V battery failures.
So I started looking for a replacement battery if mine fails.
Is this a dealer only item?
I cannot seem to find a new one online. I found a couple of used ones on ebay.

Yes, dealer only. This is like the electric car battery (also covered like one, 8 years warranty) and from my understanding quite expensive.
Also from my understanding you cannot only replace the battery, you need to replace the entire unit who include cooling and heating and have special procedure.

There are reasons why they are used and no longer in a vehicle. It would be best to buy new units. You don't know what you are buying with these batteries by going down that road. Don't mess around and do it right and pay the price from the dealer.

Maybe you should buy another 3.6 motor and maybe a new frame while you are at it. I mean you probably aren't having a problem with those but you do like to be prepared.

E-torque systems are not known for being problematic and are a high dollar and high level of expertise item. Not something you just have lying around and not a up on jack stands in the garage kind of fix either.

I was just curious if it was dealer only item. You do not have to be a ass about it.

Dealer only. Price is around 2-2.5k. You cannot replace it yourself as it needs to be programmed. It has a 8yr/80k mile warranty.

There is not a lot of info out there on the E Torque system.
I am retired and this is my last vehicle. So I know the battery is going to fail at some point down the road.

I bought the start stop eliminator, so will this help with the battery life?

Maybe to some degree...
The 48V battery is still being used 100% of the time to power every 12V item in the Jeep (through the DC-DC converter).
@alphawolff may have better info on this question.

It's not nearly as impactful on the e-torque as it is on the normal 12v systems. However, it will still extend your primary 12v battery life. I doubt it'll have much of an impact on the 48v health, if any at all.

Personally I suggest everyone not use stop/start regardless of your engine. It just isn't worth the battery health cost.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but using start/stop with the eTorque really shouldn't have any effect on the 12V battery at all since the smaller battery is only used for cold starts. And partial discharge/charge between 50 and 100% should be healthy for the 48V Li-Ion battery, though that's gonna happen while parked anyway.

Only con might be the 48V not charging the 12V during ESS, but I'm thinking that's probably when it auto-disables start/stop with the "not ready" message (12V needing charged by 48V, or the 48V needing charged by the belt-start generator, or steep grade, or desired cabin temp not reached).

I’ve been wondering about the battery life myself. I have a 2021 3.6L eTorque so my stock OEM battery is now 4 years old. My concern is that as my OEM starts to go it will need more constant charging from the 48v.

I’m planning to replace it as preventative maintenance here soon with a Walmart Everstart H7 / LN4 / 94R 850 CCA. It has a 4 year warranty so I’d be covered through the end of the eTorque warranty which for my JLUW is 12/2028. After that I’ll be on my own and I hope the 48v are still available after that. Should be right?
