I don't Hate it...But I don't love it either.
I tried getting used to it, seeing when it engaged, how I could keep it from engaging and its like dating a Psychotic girl...you never know.

Like when I get to a red light, and I am sitting there for 2 minutes and ESS hasn't shut down my engine...but 3 seconds before it turns green it decides to shut down.
constant pressure on the brake pedal, sometimes it will engage as soon as I stop, other times it doesn't

Then there are the times I am at a looooong stop and it wont engage, because it just engaged like 23 seconds ago.
I am guessing that is because of the secondary battery not charged enough to kick it on, or there is a time delay.
Have also noticed it doesn't engage on a decline or incline?

It is a weird system, maybe it will be better with BSG. Time will tell how the ESS/BSG systems fair, really don't need a 3-$4000 repair every few years

When I receive my 2019 JLUR it will be winter here in Las Vegas. As such, I will probably have the ESS on.

Moving into the hot summer months, if the cabin temperature is affected at some of the long stop lights, I will have it turned off.
Actually you won't need to turn it off during summer. When you have the climate controls set to cool the vehicle to a temperature that requires AC, it won't engage the ESS so the engine can remain running to cool the cabin. No action required by you.

Heavy A/C or heater use will prevent the ESS from engaging, as the compressor needs the engine on to operate.

Also the ESS won't engage if the engine isn't at operating temperature, or the vehicle hasn't hit 5 MPH since the last ESS shutdown, preventing that annoying constant shutdown and restart when you're creeping forward in stop and go traffic that a Ford F-150 will do.

I have had start and stop on my Range Rover and BMW, BMW had 90k miles Start & Stop worked great.
I like it. ITS JUST EASY TO (PUSH) the BUTTON if you want it off. What's the big deal.

I like it... That said, I have a manual transmission, and the integration is pretty seemless. If I didn't think to press the button, pressing the clutch restarts the engine.

If it were an option, I'd buy it.

I don't mind it at all but I have an automatic. If I had a 6 Spd I'd hate it because have you ever tried to slam a clutch in fast and slam it from neutral or or any other gear 'cuz you forgot? GRIND. But the auto has really no delay at all. And as others have pointed out - it will not engage at all if: Incline or decline is too steep (doesn't take too much), cabin is heating or cooling, stop n' go's, or engine is warming. Haven't tried the light brake pressure. It also can't stay off for more than 90 seconds I think. At a really long stop it will start back up and not shut off again. Experienced all of those. Also - it does not stop the engine the second you reach zero - it's a few seconds later it will at a dead stop.

A tell tale sign is to change the center cluster (between the tach and speedo) to messages (IIRC) and it will state why the start/start isn't enabled for a particular situation when stopped. Haven't gone 4-wheeling yet but my guess is it may not shut the engine off for that type of situation either. Does it save gas? Who knows. Does it help the environment? Maybe.

As far as 0-60 mph time compared with it on or disabled will need to be made to make a real judgement if there really is any delay - at least in the automatic. Anyone willing/qualified?

I hated start stop in my other vehicles but considering the Jeep is VERY loud sitting idle, I prefer for it to shut down, especially T drive thrus lol.

I wonder how much less expensive my Jeep could be if Jeep didn't have to design, beef up the entire starter/battery system, and install ESS in every vehicle?

No kidding. Or the time and PITA to take it to the dealer to get it fixed as I had to do. lol

Cant wait to have to replace two batteries now, with one being hidden and obnoxious to get to. ;)

I can't stand it, I gave it a good 3-4 weeks when I picked up JLU, but now i disable it every time. It is ridiculous that the ESS button doesn't have a memory feature and makes you press it every time.

My new JLU is the first car I have had with the start-stop. It seems to be pretty transparent in that it doesn't impact my starting from a red light etc. To hear the engine do a full start, every time i come to a full stop makes me wince.

I know the claim is it saves a little bit of gas mileage. I have read differing opinions on this. My main concern is the engine. Is constantly restarting the engine going to result in a shorter life span?
I LOVE the "Oh sh*t!!, I just stalled it"....followed by, "wait?!, I couldn't have its an automatic" confused feeling until you realized it was just the ESS.

Must say even though its brake pressure sensitive...it is annoying as hell!!

I hate it. It doesn't react quick enough imo. ESPECIALLY if I'm coming up to a section of road when I slow come to a stop and I sense it wants to turn off because it thinks i'm stopped but I'm really just doing a QUICK STOP and GO. It annoys me. ITs like I'm faster than it and it can't keep up with my stop n go.
This is my exact experience as well....I give Jeep props for adding technology into Wrangler, but still needs more work, or at least the option for the deactivation button to have memory feature.

Seems pretty seamless with the 2.ol Auto. The restart hardly noticable. When rolling thru my neighborhood with stop signs at every intersection and no traffic so i know i'm just gonna stop and go, i roll up to the stop sign braking gently and just a hair before coming to a complete stop I let off the brake and its flat so I still come to a complete stop. Then go and it doesn't turn off. If you know you need to pull out in to traffic quickly sitting at an intersection with the engine off, release the brake and press again and it restarts and stays running. easier than pressing the button, or with the brake on sitting at a light and on a hill, just push the button and it restarts. Doesn't really bother me at all.

Again it's just a BUTTON.

I HATE THAT I HAVE TO PUSH A (BUTTON) TO LET DOWN MY WINDOWS. But I can't push a start and stop button to turn it off.

I will spend 150 - $200 to bypass the start and stop and hopefully I don't void my warranty.

I HATE MY CELL PHONE BECAUSE I HAVE TO UNLOCK IT EVERY TIME I WANT TO USE IT. I needed to spend 150 - 200$ to bypass it.
I HATE I HAVE TO TURN ON THE LIGHTS IN THE HOUSE.

We have become so LAZY.
