The reason I cut the bottom part off the floor mats is because they don't seal to the floor. If you move the plugs up into the mat, water and damp can still come up and get into your carpet. Cut the mat short, plug both.
Have mine installed for over 4 years. Never been an issue. I don’t have any water infiltration whatsoever.

Maybe mine are defective but the mats certainly didn't seal to the floor. Have you actually lifted the mats and felt the carpet after driving in rain?

I will have to test mine out. They don't feel like they seal the floor nearly as well as the drain plug does when the mats are not in the picture.

My floor mats do not seal properly. Therefore I have keep the original plugs in the floor as it was delivered and also buy after market one to plugs the mats and they have a tendency to just move out no need for poky footwear.

Happens nearly every time I pick up a hooker that's wearing stilettos.
When you pick up the hooker tell him to remove his stilettos before getting in the Jeep.

Thats what I do?

Ditto. 3.5 years here and dry carpets year-round. I do recurringly remove the mats to hand-wash and air-dry them. Thus, any undesired water leakage/infiltration would eventually be discovered.

My 24 has the factory mats but no plug in the mats themselves. So I should pull up the mats Nd find the plug under the carpet and put it in the mats? Holy confusion corner ?

Are you talking about the carpet floor mats? If so, those don’t have any provisions for a drain plug. They just lay on top. Your drain and drain plug stay underneath.

It’s the Mopar rubber slush/weather mats that have the built in drain.

Did you pull the floor drain plugs and put them in the mats? Or do you have one of the other configurations?

This is a VERY good point. I was thinking of the rubber mats, because that's what I have. But other types do exist!

My mats "click" down into the drain holes which I think prevents moisture from entering that way -- it would be blocked by the plug in the mats.
