Turns out that was just an issue with that particular fuel pump. I haven't had the problem since going to other stations recently. I get the usual amount back in the tank now, minus the reserve that is always there when the fuel light comes on.
Glad you figured it out. I have the same problem with an Arco gas station near my house. Everywhere else i've been I have been able to fill it up properly. I also wait 30 seconds after it's full to top off again. I can usually get a bit more in the tank while the gasoline settles into the tank.

Worked out pretty well for you then, but I doubt it was just the extra gas in the hose that got you in to that position.

Nice, not a lot of pensions out there. Government work? My mom retired at 55 with full pension, plus personal retirement etc... A life putting up with idiotic bureaucrats from the inside.

Rhinebeck, does that mean "stopper of all things pay it forward" in Swahili or something? Give that next guy thats barely making ends meet that .003 gallons! Scrooge!

Ive filled up every week for a couple months from “full” to empty. I cannot get it any higher than 15 gallons, most of the time it doesnt even make it to the full mark. I cant figure it out. Has anyone else figured out a solution or is it really just programmed that far off? Side note, downward inclines suck in traffic with lowish gas. On an incline ive had it go from 100+ miles left to 15 miles. In stop and go traffic it gets a bit worry some

It doesn't look like I'm getting the full 21.5 either. Before I fill the tank, I note the remaining range and avg. mpg. I divide the range by the avg. mpg to calculate the gallons left in the tank and add that to the amount of gas it takes to fill. It's been coming out right around 19. Based on the fuel gauge being just under the full mark when I fill it, I'd say my tank is not getting full.

Wonder if its the tank sending unit then? Mine still wont read full
I think it is a problem with the tanks that won't fill all the way. My impression is maybe gained a couple gallons based on topping off a half full tank. My JT fills all the way as it should and I didn't get any push back from my dealer when I requested the tank replacement.

I know this is an older thread but when I fill from empty in my 4dr i max out between 17-19 gallons. Are people actually getting 21 gallons on a fill up?

There's one way to find out- get on the highway and drive until you run out of gas. Then you have to put gas in from a jerry can and drive to a gas station to continue the fill up to determine how much gas you can really fit in there. Until you do this you don't know if you have 1 gallon reserve or 3 gallons reserve. But I wouldn't take chances on what the reserve is unless you are carrying extra fuel with you.

About 20 years ago I had bought a different car and people online said that it had a big reserve because they couldn't put the full state tank capacity in it. So one day I was very low and I kept driving because of the supposed amount of reserve, but I ran out of fuel. I walked to a gas station and borrowed a can, then drove back to the station and carefully filled the tank completely. I found out that yes it did want to shut off about 3 gallons before full and i could carefully get another 3 gallons in there. My JLU seems to do the same thing but I haven't tried to put more fuel into it yet.
