Only other thing that comes to mind is Automotive manufacturers care about 2 main things. Safety and Emissions. Running the 75w-140 will reduce you gas mileage by just a hair, and while it can be better for towing, its not worth the loss in emissions performance from the manufacturer, so they offer a weight that will perform well, and not compromise on fuel efficiency

Your right foot will have more of an impact on MPG than a change from xW-90 to xW-140 ever will...

If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck and has webbed feet like a duck, then pretty good chance it is a duck.

That said, if you are confident in the manufacturer's recommendation, run it.

I'd love to see what the Gladiator's manual says, since it has a higher tow rating.

I’m guessing it will be hot, but I don’t run 75. With 4.10 gears and 37’s I stay at 65 or less. Even at 65 I only get 13.5 mpg. 75 would be worse. My best fuel economy comes at 60-65 so I stay with that. It’s a Jeep. I e had plenty of fast cars. Don’t care about speed or being the first anymore.

Run the cheapest specified oil that you can find then and move on.

Very valid point Ben. It's one of the reasons why I take manufacturers maintenance schedules with a grain of salt.

Link? I can't seem to find it. But unconstrained by Cafe, I'd bet 75w140 for towing and 75w90 for light duty.

While it doesn’t on say it in my JL manual.
The Manual on my 15 JK rubicon 2 door did recommend 75w140 when towing . I REALLY DO NOT THINK the axles are made out of different materials LOL. I’m running 37s and it’s hot as balls were i live so I will be switching to 75w140 like I did with my JK. Never had any issues

now you can decide on your own why they’d recommend a thinner weight oil. Remember the v6 on the jk was once 5w30 then 5w20 and now we’re at 0w20 on the same engine ????

With the heat generated by these axles as compared to other axles of the same size and with the reduced oil capacity of these axles versus the previous generations it makes little (read that no) sense to run anything less than 75W-140 in them. Fuel economy and axle longevity do not go hand In hand.

PS...75W-140 is synthetic. I have never seen a conventional version of it in the wild.

What does Dana say about the M210 up front? 75w90?

I'm on a 15k change schedule for my rear gear lube just because of the reduced capacity.
