Hello all,

Finally was able to get my hands on diesel. Very happy with it. However, given witch hunt in California with anything diesel, I want to keep my diesel running top shape and figure out to start now than later. What have you done regarding additives? Should I do it? Any specific brand preferred than other?

Thank you for all the help and guidance!

I’ve tried Hot Shots and Archoil. Both tend to make engine run smoother. I believe my mileage dropped a little bit with the Archoil but I’m waiting to finish the bottle before I try something else or Hot Shots again. You should try a few different ones to see what works best for you.

where are you at in CA? I’m in Sacramento area and primarily fill up at Propel stations with renewable diesel (not B20 biodiesel) and I’ve had great results with that for fuel. I can tell a HUGE difference when I’m in other western states running normal diesel.

Yes, and depends on your location, how you use it and what you normally feed it (ie fuel quality).

Folks in and around your location with diesel engines are your best bet for applicable information and habits.

I'm in socal and diesel prices vary wildly.
Lowest I've seen recently was 4.50 and highs up to $8 in los angeles.

I use hotshots, but have a new bottle of archoil I'll be testing.

Also have a bottle of hotshots secret stiction eliminator, for my wife's older diesel chevy cruze, but might try it out on the next oil change, maybe to prevent buildup.

We lived in the mountains last year, and winter blend is so bad.

I would like to try that and find it near me. If it's not the B20 what blend is it? I'm in Newscum California too. South end. (with the Wide Open Gate)

Hey fellow Eco-Diesel owner here ?
Congratulations on you're Eco-Diesel
32,000 awesome miles here
I've been using the below @ Every Fill Up. It stays in my Jeep.
Plus the easy measuring & easy pour make it super convenient.

Thank you all for the guidance. I am in South Orange County (between LA and San Diego). I have not done Biodiesel and probably will only use ULSD diesel number 2 as specified in the manual as main fuel. Heard some horror stories regarding biodiesel. I am thinking in trying the use of AMSOIL and Hotshots and see what works best.

Been driving diesels for a long time, currently on my 6th SuperDuty Truck:

First thing you want to do is: Does the mfg RECOMMEND a specific additive? They may or many not.

If they don't then stop off and a large truck stop, like Flying J TA, where the trucks are lined a 100 deep. See what they have on the shelf.

Follow the directions exactly and use sparingly. I only run thru my engine about twice a year.

I’ve been using hot shot edt for years in my f250 and my JL diesel. I use it mainly for the lubricants for the hpfp. I live in the Sacramento area Galt. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Propel station

Looks like closest one to you would be Bond Road exit off 99.

YES, YES AND YES

As others have mentioned.... use it.

These HPFP love lubrication. Due to the internals being made out of different metals.

I just recently (less than a week ago) went to my local dealership and spoke to a master diesel mechanic about doing the recall.... one of his first questions was if I was using any additive for the oem pump... I told him I did and he replied it was one of the best things I could do.

I second the HotShots EDT. It does several things, but importantly, it has LX4 in it for lubrication.
So
I use both. I use the performance dose of each the EDT and LX4 (2oz each) every fill up.
I buy the 1 gal containers directly from HotShots.

EDT

LX4

I also use the WinterEDT, but you do not need to worry about that in California.

I purchased a 2023 Jeep diesel Rubicon this past Saturday and while surfing this forum I see a lot of people recommend using a fuel additive. It will not hurt I am sure but I have logged over 300,000 miles on two different Chevrolet Duramax Diesels and have a VW Jetta diesel approaching 300,000 miles and have never used a drop of fuel additive in my life. So I probably won't use any in this jeep either. Maybe I should start...? Probably won't... as I can of find it a little ridiculous to think engineers would design a fuel pump that require extra lubrication to operate properly. Just my opinion...

I also have a lot of mileage in various manufacturers’ diesel vehicles. I have not used any sort of additive in any of them, and have had no issues. I think they are an unnecessary waste of money, and may in fact shorten the life of the emissions systems.
