Like I said, you have every right to your opinion, but please don't scold me for disagreeing with you. What is great about America is our democracy allows us to steer policy. Your vote counts the same as mine. Exercise it as you choose. But...don't be surprised (or bitter) when you find that most Americans want cleaner air and safer vehicles.
The problem with our republic is people don’t even understand what that means anymore. If we can’t even agree as to what we are, the rest is just window dressing.

But MPG has nothing to do with cleaner air, as long as the engine meets the emission std and what was rolled back to something more reasonable was the MPG portion.

For the record most Americans dont want higher MPG as they walk into the dealer and vote, and opt for trucks with large V8s and 4WD Jeeps. SUvs etc The market has in recent years rejected cars which generally get better MPG. Again I say give the people what they want. Look on this forum, most opt for the 3.6 over the 2.0? Why: in most cases they want the less complex engine which on paper gets lower mpg. Of course I say choose what you want but lets not have a Gov hack remove options, that I think everyone agree on that , except people in CA who think the Gov knows best ;)

VNT beat me to it. If clean air and MPG is what the average American cared about, we wouldn't be seeing 700+ horsepower cars flying off the dealer lots, full size trucks leading every imagineable sales report, and an aftermarket parts industry that generates BILLIONS of dollars per year. It's as clear as daylight that what Americans want is to ENJOY driving...and the EPA is the worst offender in the federal government.

They choked diesel engines down with emissions equipment to the point that they are now getting 30-45% less fuel economy. Guess what that means? More crude oil consumed at the expense of the environment.

They are pushing electric cars, failing to tell people that the emissions from a factory that manufactures those cars is so great that the car will need to be on the road for 5-8 years just to reach the break-even point vs. the same car with a gas engine.

They are forcing the costs of EVERYTHING to increase rapidly due to regulation and policy. This hurts all Americans.

They are forcing vehicles to become more lightweight, which puts the occupants at greater risk in an accident.

The EPA generally makes life as hard as possible for automakers who are simply trying to sell what people want.

It's a disgrace... and now they won't even allow a free American to modify THEIR property so that it'll consume less fuel and last longer before needing major repair. It's so anti-American that George Washington is likely rolling in his grave.

Challenge is, more Americans support your "They" category than those that want regulations relaxed/eliminated. Voting matters.

Brainwashing through the public education system and media mind control matters. Naivety isn't always cute and quaint.....

kilmer is an idiot, toyota schill!
I agree, If it's not a Toyota or Ford he doesn't like it. The Duramax was designed by the same company and they have been a great motor for the most part.

If it's anything like the 3rd Gen 3.0 in the Ram 1500, I think it may be a winner. They've certainly had time to figure out some issues.

In the Ram they're actually pulling exhaust post-dpf for the EGR system. Super smart, lower pressure, no soot, less cooling required. Additionally it means more exhaust available to spool the turbo. I bet other manufacturers will be following suit (assuming it works out ha ha).
CAT was using the same system in 2007 but they could never get the DPF side figured out so they bailed out.

Baby Duramax in the colorado\canyon was based off of\redesigned in conjunction with VM motori. Original 2.8L was a marine diesel adapted to vehicle use and is widely used in Europe to include Chrysler and Jeep vehicles.

Wikipedia, I had read it somewhere in an article but did a quick search to respond and found it there.

And London Taxi cars.

Very reliable!

I drove 310.000km without problems. At that milleage, only the turbo failed. Rest: OK!
