On Saturday while travelling from Seattle to the Reno area for some bird hunting with my dogs. After about 10 hours of totally normal driving, I was almost at the California border on a long elevation change when my engine just dies. No indication, no noise, no power, no steering, no brakes, nothing mechanical but the dash was still lit. A guy stopped to pull me up to the last exit before the California border. Had a helluvatime getting the transmission into neutral and the transfer case into neutral, but eventually succeeded. I tried priming several times, but it would only have normal rpms for a few seconds. If I tried to start again there a series of rapid clicks and then it shut off. My tow buddy and I checked several fuses and found none blown. Had it towed to a dealership in Medford OR. Now i am in a long cue of vehicles waiting service as they seem to be shorthanded. Do the symptoms sound familiar to anyone? One more clue. When I was priming my tow buddy said it sounded like the fuel system was operating normally. When I tried to start it was anything but normal. I have almost 25k miles on the odometer and have had no trouble with the JL unlimited Rubicon since I picked the vehicle up in April 2020.
Today June 7th, as I was driving home thru a residential st, my engine started knocking, shaking and then stopped. It would not restart. Sounded like it ran out of fuel although my fuel gage was just below 1/2. Had it towed to the dealership, lots of head scratching, especially since no codes were available. So starts the hit and miss engineering. Have 40k miles on the readout and trust me, this is my 7th jeep and since I am 59 i baby this girl (might be the last new vehicle since I will be on a fixed income soon) . Will update when i find out more.

That's exactly what happened to me on some previous vehicles and it was fuel pump.. Might not be a big deal...

Dealer called, they said it was the injector pump went bad, 3 weeks for a replacement. I asked to speak to the diesel mechanic, ( I was a marine diesel mech for 20 years) but was told he had the day off. I want to know exactly how that pump failed before I take my jeep back.

do some research on the Bosch CP4; it's a chronic issue.

3 weeks for a replacement is pretty good, since if one goes bad they have to replace the entire contaminated fuel system (everything except for the tank, which will require a thorough cleaning).

I am happy to say that my Jeep is finally Home. Thanks to Ralph at Customer Care, he expedited the parts, going from Mid Aug ETR to July 1st. The entire fuel system was removed, cleaned or replaced. The bill was over $6k. all under warranty. Now, I have a heater core leak that I have to attend too.
