you probly could have declined the updates until a later time and just gotten the oil done.

while hindsight says this is the best way to go, I was putting the “experts” in charge. I’m not an expert. I do now wish I had done that, but there was no logical reason for me to do it without the benefit of knowing what would end up happening.

You should probably read your owners manual,

“
NOTE:
Under no circumstances should oil change intervals exceed 10,000 miles (16,000 km), 12 months or 350 hours of engine run time, whichever comes first.”
He has a 4xe. So I’m assuming a lot of those miles weren’t put in with the engine running but under electric only power. I doubt he has 12,000 miles on the gas motor. He never stated the gas motor miles, engine hours or how many months since the oil was changed.

@JeepCares - Something is wrong with the RRTs for the 4xe.

OP: Change your title to "Jeep's RRT's Are Bricking the 4xe." This literally just happened to my 4xe a couple of days ago, which has been mechanically flawless since I bought it a year ago. Zero issues with the battery or the charging system. In fact, I was still getting a solid 24 e-miles around town on a full charge.

Does he have a gasoline or Diesel engine? Then the 10,000 mi applies regardless of what mileage was accumulated under electric only power, according to the manual. This is something very easy for the dealer to point to down the road to deny warranty service.

Change your oil twice as often. The 2.0 is direct injected, and with reduced engine run time, hydrocarbon buildup in the oil will be the number one cause of wear.
The manufacturer recommendation has no interest in keeping your vehicle operational outside of the warranty period.

Don't "them fancy newfangled cars with all them electro gizmos" have the ability to tell you when to change the oil based on time/usage/temp?

I mean, I know we're talking about a vehicle that still has hand crank windows and non-power door locks available....but please tell me the wrangler has an oil life monitor that tells you when the oil change is due! I only have 200 miles on my odometer and just assumed that it would tell me when due like every other car I have owned in the last 15 years.

That's why right after I got my Jeep I rebooted it, formatted the hard drive and installed DOS.
I took a step up and reprogrammed my Wrangler's CPU with "Forth" since it is much better for industrial control functions.

Mine does.

However, assumptions are for when you have no choice and can't find facts/evidence. For example, I would assume the oil monitor and the owner's manual would agree on when to change the oil but they don't. One might also assume that it would take the passage of time into consideration (< 1 year, irrespective of miles) but I don't know that it does.

I am also doing my first oil change at 1-2K mi. since this is the break-in period and every 5-6K mi. thereafter (along with tire rotation).

Oil is cheap; engines are expensive.

I would say that it is good to hear that I'm not the only one with this issue, but that seems pretty rude since this situation sucks.

My dealer said they'd never had this issue before, and that they have run these updates on lots of 4xe's. They even said that they successfully ran one on another 4xe that same morning.

Last night I read in my loaner contract that I can only drive within 100 miles of the dealership, so I guess I'm going to have to rent a car for my trip later this month.

Again, should probably read your manual instead of assuming. Yes it has an oil life monitor, and as I clearly cited from the manual, regardless of what the monitor says, Jeep says you cannot under any circumstances (their words) go beyond 10,000 miles or 12 months.

My Corvette also has an oil life monitor that gets down to about 80% remaining when it comes time for the annual change because it only gets about 1,000 mi per year. Still change it ever 12 months as the manual states. While the Corvette is no longer under warranty, your Jeep & the OP’s is, so follow the manual. Unless you like giving dealerships ammo to void warranty work - for which we all know Jeep dealerships are notorious.:like:

Only 4xe and 392 owners specify their engine instead of saying "my Jeep."
The 4xe designation was pretty integral to my concern. I never had any concern taking my prior Jeeps to JiffyLube, but because this one is a 4xe, I thought maybe there was some risk.

Also, your signature says "2019 JLU Sport S Mojito!". Why doesn't it just say "my Jeep"?
