For all of you guys running a 37"+ tire on a D30, this will give you some perspective on the borrowed time you currently possess. Lol.

If the ring is smaller than the bolt pattern, one must resist going above a 37". (This really should be 33".)

For reference, Yukon doesn't recommend anything larger than a 37" for D60's.

Pic below are Pain Train’s 40's showing the D30 ring out of a Sahara I regeared last weekend.

So…38’s on a 44 is borrowed time? ?
Yeah.

I'm not sure where everyone gets their axle size and tire size idealogy from. Lol.

A 38" tire is huge and too large for the D44 pinion cross section, let alone the amount of flex the housing goes through.

Basically, anything about above a 35" on a D44 is pushing it. The MFG knows this, of course, which is why a lot of warranty claims are turned down for drivetrain stress.

That's a conservative recommendation. Lockers can potentially double the strain on the R&P. It's generally recognized the rear axle needs to be stronger than the front because when climbing, there's more weight and strain on the rear. I think the Dynatrac XD60/XD80 goes a bit too far. A 60/70 or better yet a Jana 76/80 would be more balanced.

I think those numbers are why Jeep doesn't sell anything with 37's, they don't want to step up to bigger axles. The Bronco Raptor has 37's with a D50 in the rear, but not in the front.

Experience has shown if you avoid shock loads, a D44 with lockers can crawl with 37's. There are many D60's on 40's that do more than crawl successfully.

I've got the Dynatrac XD60/XD80 on my Juggy and I bounce it pretty hard on sticky 43's. So far I've only busted the front hubs, which I replaced with Yukon drive flanges.

I crawl pretty aggressively in my JLR on 38's and I don't consider my time limited, as long as I don't bounce it. I'm far more concerned about long recoveries on 4+ trails of dead rigs than crawling.

If you dont jump and be very conservative on throttle control and turning your front.. you can wheel a Front M186 on 35s with a stout locker (like ARB) for a long time.. yep there is a chance it will eventually give up but thats the same case with 37s and M210s

I watched my buddy in his JLS on 35's with the front wheel turned and a slight hop break the front axle u-joint, the same u-joints my JLR uses. I went home and ordered RCV's.

That's key, crawling, no bumping or bouncing.

Warranty claims turned down due to drivetrain stress— Yet Jeep presents concepts— Departure 4Xe, Rubi 4Xe, sideburn with 37’s — Scrambler 392 & Magneto with 40’s. No axle upgrade mentioned in the original presentation other than Magneto, 80/60.( unless I missed it) The 392 unveiling announcement video with 2 running around in the sand had one on 37’s also as I recall ? …….. Still hoping for the Departure fenders. ?
