On Saturday it was @10 degrees F or so where I live (warm for some of you) and out of no where the windshield cracked. Happened during the first few minutes of driving and no rocks were kicked up. Is it possible the cold did it? And is this something that shouldn’t have happened and would be covered under warranty?

Check below the wiper blade for a small chip. I had that happen once at the top of the window, the chip was right below the trim, and when a little moisture gets in, the crack grows as it freezes.

I had this happen with my Gorilla glass windshield after owning it 2 months….. I’m just living with it until it gets really bad and then will replace. Dealership is going to make any excuse to not cover it

Certainly very possible.

There are a number of threads here of that happening.

Many owners parked and went home, and after a very cold night they woke up to see their windshield cracked.

Our windshield had a chip in the lower left drivers side that expanded into a crack during the cold weather of the blizzard the other day. The cold weather finished off the chip. I have heard of damage free windshields cracking from just cold weather.

I had GG and it cracked from a stone. I was in snow and I noticed a crack on the right side of the window away from the other crack.

I've heard people say that if the windshield is cold and you turn on the heater it may crack. Yours looks like it happened right above the heater vents.

The chip if any is a non-warranty issue. If there is not a chip detected, then it is a stress crack, which should be coved under warranty. But the Dealer will probably try to deny warranty.

Mine cracked this weekend. I am assuming it was because I had the defroster on high while I was cleaning the snow off. Such a bummer.

First of all, I feel like a real Jeeper now - my windshield also cracked!!! :)
If I were to post a photo, it would almost perfectly match yours. No stone chip, just a crack right where the centre defrost has a high concentration of heated air. It's been cold here and from my untrained eye, that seems to be the explanation. I'll take it in, as I want to rotate the tires and get an oil change anyway, but I'm assuming they'll tell me to go to Autoglass and use my insurance...

It could be...I had a '96 Impala years ago and the windshield cracked while I had the defroster on high heat and leaned on it to change a wiper blade in the dead of winter.

Happened to my wife’s 18 JLU…defroster was on , we were sitting in the driveway inside the car and I literally watched it happen. Replaced with OE glass never happened again

I’ve got a matching crack and a matching one about 5” to the passenger side going up and to the right. Matching opposing cracks.?
Like wings as if the Jeep was meant to fly or something.

Like people have said, probably a chip not seen and then turning on the defroster plus the cold to hot in a short period of time causes a crack to shoot out. This is the reason why I don't use the remote start feature, it automatically turns on the defroster full blast at startup, and as far as I know this can't be adjusted.
I have tons of chips and cracks that have been filled for over a year now without getting worse, I think this is large part to me managing defroster temps very gradually.

My windshield cracked spontaneously while I was driving down the road in montana in -10F temperatures using the windshield washer. It turns out there was a tiny chip that exploded into a windshield-length crack, some washer fluid must have gotten in, ammonia evaporated, and then froze.

I noticed a crack a couple of days after our cold weather. I don't recall any rock hits recently. My crack is also up from the bottom of the windshield in front of the driver. I have a previous crack on the passenger side. Maybe I'll wait until I get my 3rd crack and then get a new windshield.
