Sorry for delay in replying. Turns out I was able to get some type of warranty that guarantees me free windshields for so many years. (7 I think).
How much was that and which insurance company? Insurance is regulated by State so it might not be available for me anyway but your info might help someone else.

Windshields are a comprehensive claim, for which a $100 deductible is not that much more on a premium. Why not just pay $100 for each new one?

You know I’m not sure yet. It was offered from the dealer when I got my Jeep. I’ll have to look who it is through and can get back to you.

Autonation dealers offer a type of policy like beachbumm78 mentioned. It believe it is about $800 for 7 years and you get unlimited windshield replacements up to a total maximum of $6000.

I would think so. Take it to a windshield repair shop and they should be able to inject resin to prevent it from cracking further.

You should have that repaired very very quickly, like yesterday quick. Mine turned from a chip to a foot long crack in the span of a few days.

I bought the permatex kit and fixed one myself. It worked as advertised then a week later I kissed a rock on the freeway and watched the crack grow on my commute.
Anyone make a lexan or polycarbonate windshield.

I'm still looking for where LiteBrite sourced theirs on the video. Showed multiple chips and no cracking.

I can’t remember the brand it was. My crack is not in the direct field of view, so I’m going to wait till i get more hits.

I had a crack about a month ago and thankfully my insurance picks up the whole cost. Sad though that this is my 3rd Jeep but my first chip.

New to the club (for JL anyway - 3x member with my JK).

Caught a rock near the top of my windshield - could barely see the tiny pit at impact when it happened, but by the next day it had spread beyond a fill repair.

Went with Safelite and got the ā€˜OEM’ glass which seems the same as others here have posted, but note that it has a different ending letter compared to factory glass below the glyph-type, QR, whatever barcode - original glass P68433234AA and replacement glass P68433234AB.

Couple observations about my Safelite experience. I tried both ā€˜pay on my own’ and ā€˜use insurance’ for quotes and the difference was significant - if I had paid, list was just over $865 but the total with adjustments was around $527. Using pay through insurance, same list price but a sell price of $148.11 and with labor and kit, a total of $283.75. Nice to know that Average Joe gets hit with near double the cost for the same job.

When Safelite showed up I received a pre-auth notice by text before the work started and it had a vehicle pre-inspection which showed:

Area: Carpet, Damages: Soiled
Area: Hood, Damages: Chipped

It also says ā€œaccepted by customer by phoneā€, which I found surprising given I’m the customer and...well...BS. Bear in mind my JL may need an outside wash, but otherwise is in showroom condition at 6K miles (I actually feel bad saying that - I need to get this thing out and off the road more!). Anyway, I go outside and ask what the deal is with that inspection and the guy says ā€œwell, I assumed that the rock glanced off your hood and hit the glassā€. Nice try. I ask him to update the inspection because he can’t show me a soiled carpet or chipped hood and they otherwise have a ā€œit was already thereā€ defense if they damage anything.

The guy was nice enough and mentioned that their shop replaces 36 Jeep (inferred Wrangler, but not just JL) windshields a week on average. That seems high for a single shop and one model - maybe he meant per month, but that’s still a lot of glass. He mentioned the lack of slope we’ve all mentioned as a factor, but also said that the glass, even OEM, for the Wrangler is just thinner than what he sees in most cars and that it’s just unforgiving when it’s hit. Where’s the Gorilla that’s supposed to be in this glass?

Install was fast and done reasonably well - teeny scrape where one corner went in that’s just too small to fuss about and, as I tend to experience with any replacement, too much urethane in the lower corners that just looks like crap compared to factory but, like I said, that seems to happen every time (for me).

Zero deductible and seamless experience with USAA made this all relatively pain-free. Got to give a shout out to USAA because they've not tried to wring out my wallet like my last insurer (rhymes with blind-side) and I didn’t have to call, email or text to get this done - they just emailed following my scheduling w/Safelite and said all is good to go. They are even proactively giving a 20% refund on 2 months premiums during Covid-19 because vehicles aren’t being driven as much. I don’t like insurance companies in general, but USAA is good in my book.

I’m being long-winded and will stop now. Stay safe, folks.

Woo-hoo. I'm now part of the Cracked Windshield Club.

Had to wait a while... A whole 2100 miles and less than two months old.

Wonder what I'm going to have to do to with my Chicago city sticker.
