hi!
so super frustrated and upset, want to see if anyone has had a similar experience and or resolution. i’ve had my 2021 wrangler for about three years now, and in July started to notice the paint bubbling and corroding on all four hinges and multiple places on my hood. I am still under warranty so I took it to the Jeep dealership nearby/- I was told that 2021’s (and other years) were painted with bad paint and that this happens all the time- so we followed the steps and went through a whole 5 month long process of getting this ‘repainting’ approved, and it was finally approved last week. After all of that, they will only spot paint my hinges and hood, which 1 will likely be noticeable in day light since my car has been out in the sun and elements for 3 years (the manager at the dealership agreed that it probably would be noticeable) and 2 it will leave the rest of my jeep still with bad paint- meaning i’m bound to run into this problem again down the line, most likely after my warranty ends. Cherry on top, they won’t give a loaner vehicle for the 3 week long spot painting process. So not only am I losing my car for 3 weeks with no other vehicle, it’s not even being fully fixed. Looking for any insight anyone has in this situation, not trying to complain but for the price I pay for my wrangler, i’m disappointed that this even happened, and even more disappointed that i’m not being offered a long term fix or solution. thank you in advance!!

A good body shop should be able to blend it so its not that noticeable. The TSB specifies that if the corrosion has damaged the aluminum, the entire panel needs to be replaced. They won't know the extent of it until they strip the paint. And the body shop should replace the hinges with the new design that is also in the TSB.
Others here have had their entire doors and hood painted and the corrosion has returned.

that’s another thing i’m worried about- the corrosion warranty doesn’t last forever and who’s to say it wont keep coming back- if i wanted a bubbling corroded jeep i wouldn’t be paying for a brand new vehicle! so upsetting, thank you for the input

I would push back hard on the loaner. 3 weeks without a vehicle due to factory deficiencies is inexcusable. @JeepCares should be able to help as well.

i thought so too but I was directed to call Jeep corporate which didn’t get me any further in the process- no loaner or permanent fix ? i keep saying if i got in an accident and this was something of my own fault then i understand, but this is a quality issue so it kinda leaves me in a place where i really know what to do!

There is a thread on this problem with 200+ pages of stories. I’ve just had the problem show up on a few hinges on my 2020…hoping it doesn’t worsen too rapidly. Given the ongoing nature of the problem and Jeep’s unwillingness to make the repair process easier, I think we all have a decision to make…. Good luck with your fix.

The corrosion warranty is 5 years from when the vehicle 1st sold. Even though both Jeep and dealer acknowledged that they have a problem going back years, mine is an 2018, they are at this time not even standing up for their first repair more bubbling has appeared but I neglected to bring it back to get rechecked until after the warranty expired. My dealer or Jeep did give me loaners for the 2 months the first time.

2018 JLUS and just brought mine in for a 60K service. Honestly never really looked let alone noticed any issues on paint corrosion(But if I do not look, I am not going to notice). I got a call from body shop while It was there for service and they said they noticed it had corrosion and wanted to know if I wanted it taken care of while it was in. I asked how long they told me a week, I asked about the rental I was already in and they said no problems. They took a week on the paint and I had no issues with the rental. Got the Jeep back (Still waiting on one part that is on back order for a oil leak they found) but paint looks good to me. (They did have to take of my hood decals do to the paint, kind of sucks but oh well)

I have this issue now too. I had been checking my paint periodically since I heard about the paint bubble issue. Hadn't noticed anything over the last two years. Then early this fall my wife mentions there is some bubbling on the passenger side hood right under the RUBICON sticker.

So I looked all around the Jeep and now see slight bubbling on some of the hinges but hard to tell if it's really bubbles or just a rough paint job there. However, there is definite bubbling now on the hood from the edge to the hood sticker.

I used to live in Massachusetts but now live in south eastern NH but had bought my Wrangler in Connecticut, so I have always serviced it at a local dealership in Massachusetts not far from where I live now as well. So I called that Jeep dealer since I have it serviced there regularily and made an appointment. Don't remember exactly when but it was in September or October and they told me it would be a couple of months and the earliest was for December 18th (today).

So fast forward to this weekend, two days before the appointment and the dealership leaves me a voicemail saying the appointment was cancelled.

I had a run-around on the phone but eventually got the service manager and he said they are short handed and don't have enough techs to service the backlog so they are not doing warranty/painting work for vehicles not purchased at that dealership. Said it is an owner policy now because of staffing issues. Said to try back in a couple of months.

I called a second dealership today and tried to make an appointment and was told the same thing basically. Too much warranty work and not enough techs so they can't service me since I didnt buy the car there.

WTF!!!

I have a call into another bigger dealership but their service warranty guy isn't in today so I have to call back tomorrow. They did say they don't have a policy for only servicing vehicles they sold so hopefully that holds true.

@JeepCares Can you help with this if I can't get an appointment to address my paint bubbling?

I've noticed the same problems on my 2019 JLUR and decided to wait until closer to the end of my warranty period. I spent a lot of time, maybe too much time, trying to find the right dealership that would work on it. The large company / dealership brand where I bought it (obviously) didn't want to help me with it, "You'll need to leave it with us for six to seven months" ... I kept working every Jeep relationship I had, at every dealership, etc. Eventually, a friend of a friend and a couple of referrals later I was introduced to the service department at a dealership 140 miles away. Night and day difference in level of professionalism, work ethic, quality, etc. I'm getting all new doors and a new hood, when all the parts are in they're giving me a loaner for the entire time window since it is under warranty, I have zero regrets spending the time to find the right service department to work with.

Yes, it is a real PITA to drive 140 miles -- but I also haven't had to give up my Jeep for seven months either.

My advice -- keep looking for the right service department/dealership to work with.
