Man, it seems that every time I look at my Jeep I see a factory imperfection in the paint! First was a dimple on the rear quarter panel. I took it in to get knocked out and the guy who takes care of dents said he didn't understand how it happened. right before I took it in I noticed something else on the rear passenger driver side door, like a bubble in the paint. The dent guy who is subcontracted by the dealer said he didn't understand that one ether and that it definitely came from the factory that way, which I can clearly see. He knocked the one dimple out pretty good. He didn't want to touch the bubble and I didn't want him to ether.

In my older age I am more forgiving of these things, years ago it would have drove me nuts!!! But now I see two more dimples in the fender and a bubble on the hardtop in the side rear. The dimples on the fender aren't really noticeable. The bubble is more noticeable but I can still live with it.

What kind of quality control does Jeep have!!!!! Pisses me off!!!!!

Anyone else notice this?

I have not noticed any imperfections as of yet on the paint. I did notice my driver side interior panel was popped out and not tucked tightly back in place like all the other panels by the doors. Thereā€™s no way it clips back in either sinceI tried to force it back in place which that did not help. I might take it in later on when I have time.

Definitely a QC problem from the plant.

Honestly shit happens. Itā€™s not as if every Wrangler coming out of the factory is having this issue, however there will always be some quality issue that somehow manages to slip through QC. It not is if the people working QC at the plant are are going out of there way to allow QC issues to ship out.

Back in 2011 we bought the brand new redesigned Grand Cherokee. Mostly it was a great vehicle, however like you we had little quality issues like the paint flaking on the rear spoiler (I think thatā€™s what it is called) or the headliner not being trimmed correctly around the grab handles. I brought it into the dealer and got it taken care of. Even with our 2012 Rubicon there was silly shit like the rear passenger door getting a lighter coating of paint than the front door or the main body or the soft top not being cut to shape right son the velcro would pull apart as I drove the highway or the paint bubbling on the door hinges because they bolted a bare aluminum hinge onto a bare steel door and painted it. While didnā€™t do anything about the paint issue on the door I did get the hinges repainted multiple times and fought to get the top replaced.

My point with all of this is simply this, if itā€™s that much of a problem for you bring it into the dealer for imaging so they can get it warrantied. Coming on a web forum bitching about how you feel their lack of QC pisses you off is kinda pointless.

Lol, hey chief, I didnā€™t need your little schooling. To take it back in for warranty could make things a whole lot worse because they would have to repaint multiple places.

And I was living with it, and completely understand that shit happens. Thatā€™s why I havenā€™t been on here bitching until I saw the last imperfection, (which now totals 6) and decided to come here and see if anyone else was having this issue! If no one is, then I just was unlucky. If multiple people are having issues Then itā€™s a Quality Control problem Professor!!!

It does surprise me what gets past QC. Unfortunately paint imperfections can happen at any point after the paint shop, during assembly, transportation, dealer lot or test drives. My Honda has paint imperfections on the inside of the doors near the hinges. No way this could have happened after assembly. My theory is the assembly jigs used to assemble and mount the doors to the body after paint caused these imperfections. The doors are painted while mounted to the body, then removed and sent to door assembly line, then re-mounted to the body during final assembly. A worker unbolted the doors after the paint shop, mounted them to an assembly jig, then bolted them back onto the body. Engineering controls should be in place to help eliminate human error.

I've heard that the dealer paint touch up guys absolutely hate Black vehicles because they expose every imperfection.

Hi usmcss,
This is not what we hope to hear from our new Wrangler owners. If you do choose to visit your dealer to have this addressed further, we would be more than happy to offer our assistance as well. Please feel free to send us a private message with additional detail if this is something you are interested in.

Well that is really nice to hear! Makes me feel better about it! I absolutely love this Jeep and it seems that I just might be one of the unlucky ones that have more than one imperfection. They are all livable marks, as I said before it would probably turn out worse getting them fixed.

Thank you Julie!!!

My 16 had some paint issues. Light coats, spots where there was only primer. This was a huge issue on the JKs. Seemed like the robots needed to be recalibrated.

You have every right to come on here and express your concerns. That is why we have the forum. Good luck!!!

Welcome! Seems like itā€™s going to be a fun ride here on the JL train. From paint, to welds, and what ever wields itā€™s ugly head. Had my JL 2 weeks and itā€™s in for squeaky bushings or what ever it could be. Go over a speed bump and itā€™s loud! I never noticed it until I went over a speed bump last week. 1st service dept didnā€™t hear it. Lies. Went to another dealership and politely asked someone to ride over some speed bumps or driveway entrances and he heard it. Hopefully itā€™s fixed to day, so I can give back this Renegade. My friends call it the castration of Marty. Lol. Nex I need safelite to come fix my windshield before this stone hit spiders. Good times. My wifeā€™s jinxed me. My 16 JKU never was in the shop. She said I trade this one and Iā€™ll likely get one that had problems. Glad I avoided al the tech options. That decreased my chances of having issues. In all honesty so far the issues are minor detail.

Hello Aqualung and thanks for the Welcome! I hope they figure out what the noise is! Nothing worse than noises that aren't suppose to be there! Let us know how it goes!

All this being said; I LOVE THIS JEEP!!!!

Hi usmcss,

We understand why this is disappointing and do apologize for the paint concerns you've been experiencing. Are you planning on heading back into the dealership to get these 2 additional dimples inspected. Just to have this formally documented and get a Case Specialist to assist while in service, feel free to send us a direct message with your VIN.

Usmcss ive got a black JL as well. Never owned a black one before dam wife had to have it. I've noticed my hood and fenders have plenty of paint imperfections. Drives me crazy also. After only 500 miles I've got a hand full of paint chips on the hood as well:facepalm:

Honestly sorry to hear that Jkohler! I have two rock chips on my rear fenders where the tap use to be before I took it off like an idiot! I thought it was just there for shipping purposes.
