I have a 22 rubicon with XR package.
Have around 50 thousand kilometers with no problems. My other jeeps have very few issues. My 2012 jeep rubicon had almost 200 thousand kilometers with the no problems except for a crank sensor.
It is all about maintenance.
Want it to last then change your oil regularly. I change it mu h earlier than what is suggested by manufacturer.
My Jeeps on its sixth oil change at 22,000 miles. When I bought it was 12,000 miles it was already on its fourth oil change. I can tell you right now oil changes have nothing to do with head gasket failure. Now my camshafts and rockers probably love the extra oil changes but it ain't going to do shit for my head gasket.

Phuk em. I'm not joining any class action. What's that gonna do? Get me $50? Maybe enough for one meal at a sit-down restaurant. Class actions ought to be illegal.
Yay, let's make lawyers rich and give coupons to hundreds of thousands of people!

I'm impressed that you get a paper magazine mailed to you.....
My wife got gifted a subscription to Cook's Country and when it showed up for the first time I was like "Holy shit, they still do this stuff?"

BTW, @autotragic - did you ever check for radiator or coolant reservoir leaks? Could totally be that instead of a head gasket if you don't have any rough idling or coolant/oil mixing.

My coolant seems to be getting darker and darker...I'm actually thinking it might be an oil cooler issue. I'm hoping it is anyway.

If you take your oil dipstick out, clean it good, and snake it down in the valley besides the oil cooler that's a really easy way to check to see if you have anything leaking in there.

The responses on this thread are interesting. Many complain that CR is biased regarding reliability yet I see so much anecdotal evidence on this forum that the Wrangler is indeed unreliable. Regarding reliability ratings, despite being statistically flawed, I suspect ratings from CR are about the best we can find. I’m NOT talking about road testing…which is done far better by other publications. Perhaps I’m not aware of another publication that is doing reliability testing using more statistically solid methodologies. It seems like we can at least glean an indication from CR regarding comparative reliability. My 2018 Ford Edge has been extraordinarily reliable…just as reported in CR. My 2020 Wrangler has been unreliable…just as reported in CR. Perhaps a mere coincidence…perhaps not.
JD Power is far better. Still not great. Just a lot better.

You can't just look at one source for quality information on an automobile and believe you've gotten a clear picture. You need to go to many different sources. Forums like this one are a great resource for one, if you know how to spot the fanboys. There are lots of honest members on any given car forum that still love their vehicle, but recognize its flaws and can give a great review of what the ownership experience will be like.

Get a kit like this. Amazon.com: Block Tester BT-500 Head Gasket Combustion Leak Test Kit - Made in USA : Automotive

f it shows combustion products in the coolant, it's a big clue. Then you might want to do a more extensive test, a cylinder leakdown test. A used oil analysis will tell you if the coolant is in the oil and if it's affecting wear.

I much agree…so much of the bash CR mentality seems to ignore the elephant in the room; for many of us our JLs have been unreliable despite good maintenance. Two of my failures would have been extremely problematic had they occurred on the trail rather than on my driveway: fuel line leak (ended up being a recall a few months after mine was replaced) and water pump screws. Both problems are minor to fix but could have had major implications in terms of safety and operation, especially on a remote trail. I like driving my Wrangler but these issues are not rare “one-offs”.

The real question is ... Is a Wrangler the car for anyone that reads CR for a car review? Maybe this is a good thing for us and Jeep as a whole. Maybe you all should be THANKING CR for doing the community a favor

The only thing that a true follower of CR should be driving is a 2002 Toyota Camry or Honda Civic.

Must be an increasing number of CR readers given Wrangler sales declines and the fall off in resale….
