Not wishing to debate the validity of CR or USA Today.

Simply passing on information I came across. I'm concerned at their spelling of brakes, btw and them calling a Wrangler a car.

It's interesting we have the lowest depreciation by a mile and yet their chart has a Wrangler barely above Fred Flinstone's stone car in reliability, tho I never saw his broke down...

So what’s different between a 23 wrangler and a 22 gladiator that makes the gladiator less reliable by 2 points? They are basically the same vehicle as far as mechanical and electrical goes. Unless the gladiator rear sway bar is trash? Lol. That’s the only real difference I know of. Other than the obvious truck bed lol.

Part of the issues is that they look at the full line of products. Some of the FAUX products that have the Jeep Branding are drawing the brand down to be sure. My goodness, they think some of the stuff FORD has been putting out is more reliable?

They literally rated the Jeep Wrangler as the least reliable.

They used to publish a % number so you could get a better idea around exactly how much more reliable something was. When the difference became less than 5% (3% in most cases) then it didnt really matter what you bought so CR changed the system to points where they now add subjective ratings such as noise, comfort, safety ratings, etc... to get this list of points you now see.

A Wrangler will never be a recommended vehicle due to the "subjective" categories.

Are there some egineering duds out there - yes, but when it comes to big ticket items that CR was known for the difference across brands is very small and hence not worth reporting.

Other than adding a data point of information,I don't value this source any more than many others. What matters to me is the owner experience I have with my current Wrangler.I maintain my own vehicles, am somewhat mechanically inclined, and realize... at the moment I have a sample size of one.So far ,so good.

Old news. CR has always given Jeeps poor ratings. Back in the TJ days it was the same. I put a LOT of miles on my two with no issues at all in the first 100k miles on each one. My BIL has followed and listened to them for years. I’ve seen way too many of CR’s “top rated” products that he’s had issues with to put much credence into anything they say. If you’re old enough you remember the “roll over” issue and also the Audi “unintended acceleration” where cars would just take off. That turned out to be idiots placed their foot of the accelerator while putting the vehicle in gear?. The solution was simply making it so you could not move the gear selector into position unless your paw was on the brake?.

Here’s the thing. The CR of our gen isn’t the same magazine or reliability of reporting as when we were growing up.

I can still remember as a kid my Dad going to the library to look for the CR back issue with the Dishwasher reviews.

I felt like the reviews were more honest and reliable.IMHO

“Squeaky breaks”
“Trouble with 4wd systems”

Consumers shouldn’t be allowed to rate anything. People are stupid.
calling squeaky brakes a reliability problem speaks volumes ?

LOL - Trouble with the 4wd system they never use going to the mall.
It probably works just fine, they just didn't know how to use the shifter on the left.

They literally rated the Jeep Wrangler as the least reliable.
Well that's just the thing, that's not how they ranked it, but it's how they presented the information to make it look worse. It's not rated least reliable of their "bottom 10" it has the highest reliability score of those 10.

And none of those vehicles above the Jeep get treated like a Jeep. You can find Jeeps that are 25 years old with 300,000 miles on them still being wheeled hard. If those vehicles listed above the Jeep had been through what my Jeep has been through they would be in the junk yard.

Enjoy.
There is NOT DEBATE to be had.

Jeep driver for 58 years 65-2023. The bulk of that time (up until 1984 it was a off road rig, hunter etc). Begining in 1984 with my first Ordered Wrangler, there have been 17 since to include my 2023 I just got.

These are modern Jeeps. Yes in most cases they were 3rd cars for me. That said they were cars that racked up miles in city traffic (beltway around Wash DC those weekly meetings a the Pentagon, always find a place to park) and off-roading on the weekends. Nothing better in BIG city traffic than a SWBJ. Dodge in and out of traffic and YES the sign says American Airlines parking full, not for a Jeep at DFW airport.

Most of my Jeeps had 25-45 k miles on them at trade-in time. 2 had over 100k.

Let's talk about RELIABILITY! Est Total 84-2023 Jeep mileage 650,xxx miles.

Metrics: To judge reliability since all (17) Jeeps were new then I can only turn to times when it went back to the dealer for warranty service: Let's do the count and the service:

1. AC drip hose came out of the firewall and dripped on the passenger side. The service writer knew exactly what it was reached his hand up under the dash and pushed it thru the firewall all the way.

2. Broken rear driver's side axle shaft. Tear-down showed it to be an internally cracked shaft

3/4. The Rearview mirror showed outside temps. Gave ICE on Road warning in Dallas in July, replaced sending unit and then the mirror itself

5. Ground wire came loose and caused the left rear taillight to blink on and off while driving.

Post repairs after the warranty expired:

1. At 136,000 miles the water pump began to drip.

650,000 miles of driving....YEA, don't buy a Jeep Wrangler those cars are just not dependable.

So who are the people at CR? Extreme Left, Fingernail polish, Ph.D. Basket Weaving, Latte Light, Organic, Almond-Soy milk, DeCafe Coffe and a Straw and a Meatless Breakfast Taco, no hot sauce or Salsa., EV car good more Climate Control

The word Jeep is the same as Real MEN, Off-Road, in the Mud and the Dirt and the Rain, replacing a U joint, on the trail in under 10 min. Jeeps are used in WAR, Jeep bad Jeep is just another word for FREEDOM...

Yeah, but tell us how you REALLY feel. ?
Here's my first Jeep. I changed out the fuel pump in 10 minutes, laying in the dirt using a screwdriver and a crescent wrench.
