The responses on this thread are interesting. Many complain that CR is biased regarding reliability yet I see so much anecdotal evidence on this forum that the Wrangler is indeed unreliable. Regarding reliability ratings, despite being statistically flawed, I suspect ratings from CR are about the best we can find. I’m NOT talking about road testing…which is done far better by other publications. Perhaps I’m not aware of another publication that is doing reliability testing using more statistically solid methodologies. It seems like we can at least glean an indication from CR regarding comparative reliability. My 2018 Ford Edge has been extraordinarily reliable…just as reported in CR. My 2020 Wrangler has been unreliable…just as reported in CR. Perhaps a mere coincidence…perhaps not.

In 18 months of ownership and just shy of 5600 miles now, I haven't had any iss-

...Oh, wait, yes I have. A weird CEL apparently caused by cold weather at high elevation. That one never came back.

And just today I got the @! Start/Stop system unavailable error for the first time.

I did just return from wheeling the piss out of the thing in Moab, so who knows. But that's what makes a Jeep fun to own, because you can do stuff like that. If I was looking for 90's Toyota Camry levels of reliability, I wouldn't own a Jeep. Instead I choose fun. I occasionally have to deal with issues as a byproduct.

Apparently lemon laws only work if the manufacturer wants to play. Kind of like the moss Magnuson act. Ie lawyer expenses become a deterrent to go forward.

I get paid to drive Jeeps :)
Yea youre gonna need head gaskets homie
That's what the deal was with the Prius; I don't remember the mileage, but it was a gradual thing that shouldn't have happened so soon. You have to drop the engine to replace the head gasket, so he decided to get a new 2012 engine installed; that model year didn't have the problem. (Yes, I concede that I really don't know what I'm talking about, but it was something along those lines, IIRC...

Reliability scores are an interesting datapoint.

But much,. much, much more important for owner satisfaction is the dealer service score.

I'd rather have 5 problems and have a dealer take care of it promptly while giving me a loaner car, etc, than have a single problem (like the hinge corrosion) and have the dealer service network and the manufacturer give me the run around to tire me out.

The only value I could see of C.R. would be to rate dealers and manufacturers on how they address issues. But that is actual work, which they won't do.

Of all the years of seeing cars on the side of the road, very few jeeps, old or newish. Sort of like old Toyota trucks... if they are broke down, it's from being off road, not on the side of the road.
Wish that was the case with my 21 JLUD, well in all fairness, it has always Limped me home, but it has spent an entirely unjustifiable amount of time in the shop

None... but it pays well.

One odd ball moment last year. I had a borrowed car out of state. Before making it out of state, the dealer did a software update per safety/security recall... oil change, ect... everything in order, no issues. Once out of state the car went into limp mode. Since it was in warrenty, I made an appointment at a dealer. Got a 3 day wait on appointment, and fixed same day. They did an ecu firmware update and checked engine bearing life.... that I figured was by some sensor within engine. Did not ask as the status was good. Could not be happier with service, but I fail to understand why the home dealership did not do a firmware update check, when I had it there for service and recall.

Seemed like the out if state dealer was keen on a TSB about the need for the ecu firmware update.

I have a 22 rubicon with XR package.
Have around 50 thousand kilometers with no problems. My other jeeps have very few issues. My 2012 jeep rubicon had almost 200 thousand kilometers with the no problems except for a crank sensor.
It is all about maintenance.
Want it to last then change your oil regularly. I change it mu h earlier than what is suggested by manufacturer.

My Jeep is definitely not as reliable as my Honda. The Jeep's fit/finish isn't great either. But the Jeep has a higher smiles-per-gallon rating which counts a lot.

When they lost all credibility is when they tested the Jeep KJ CRD back in '05 and reported that it got 11 MPG. The true mileage was double that, but the idiots didn't realize that the diesel had a return-style fuel system and so all the fuel flowing wasn't being burned at the same time. That little incident showed how inept they were at anything automotive and it gave them a black eye for a while.

never had any issues with my 2013 wrangler, a few with my 2014 wrangler (the oil filter cooler leak, radiator cracked, front axle seals both sides 2X each) none with my 2016 and none with my 2018. the 2013, 2016, and 2018 never saw the dealership for any warranty work the 2014 warranty work was all same day fixes. Not so lucky on my 2024.....my 2020 power wagon had a few minor issues needed a few different software updates and front drive shaft replaced and rear diff seal replaced. My many Honda never had any issues, my Mazdas never had any issues, my subarus never had any issues, my Ford trucks no issues...I have had more down time on my 2024 rubicon than all my other vehicles combined and I have been buying new vehicles since the 70's.
