I don't know over the last week I think I've put quite a bit of coolant in my Jeep... I'm starting to get worried. So the weekend before last I did an oil change and noticed the coolant reservoir was pretty low and topped it off. The morning after I got back from the Jeep jamboree (this past Sunday) I had to top it off again... Less than a thousand miles and it already needed coolant again.

Not sure where the coolant is going because there's no apparent leaks and I don't smell coolant under the hood either.

Still less than 22,000 miles.

Classic head gasket failure symptom. Watch for white exhaust smoke on morning start up. Hopefully you’re under warranty. Watch for coolant in the oil…check your dipstick for milky appearance.

Consumer Reports methodology is crap. They survey vehicle owners and ask questions about problems in 20 areas. This is a non random sample aka non probability sampling. You can compensate all you want for sample population distribution but it is not going to make the data accurate.

Their sample is non random and biased.

I don’t subscribe to CR…it seems they focus on two areas…how vehicles drive and perform, and their reliability. The low drivability performance ratings they assign to the Wrangler doesn’t recognize the intended use of the vehicle. For instance a Honda minivan would score very low on a Moab trail…clearly not its intended use case. This is the area where CR fails miserably.

Conversely, CR reliability ratings are based on owner experiences and is therefore far more relevant IMHO. My personal experience supports the poor CR reliability rating. I like my Jeep but it’s had some pretty bad warts…and it’s certainly not improving based experiences shared on this board.

The reliability ratings are junk. They're an opinion survey of the subscribers who actually reply. Anyone who has taken statistics 101 can tell you it's a biased sample set. There isn't even any validation of the opinions against emperical data. People can lie and nobody checks them. So the ratings aren't a good prediction of actual reliability.

As an example, when the Toyota Matrix and Pontiac Vibe came out, they were built on the same platform by the same workers on the same assembly line. The only difference was trim bits. But CR rated the predicted reliability differently for the two cars. How can the same car have different reliability based only on trim pieces?

If CR wanted to do a useful prediction of reliability, they would get hard numbers of actual repairs that were required.

Or should I let it go until I get an actual check engine light for misfires and a cylinder is completely cooked so I get a new long block under warranty?

I agree it’s not random because the survey is provided to subscribers. That said, help me understand why this methodology uniquely biased against the Jeep Wrangler….as it relates to reliability (not driving performance). Candidly I have found their reliability ratings to be pretty close to my personal experiences with all cars I have owned. It’s CR’s road tests that I believe are incredibly biased.

my 2024 has been at the dealership for over a month with a problem that popped up sept 4th and has been down since sept 20th. dealership can't fix it. yea i would avoid one .

Even a blind mouse can find some cheese once in a while.

They might get it right. They may be way off. That's what you expect given their methodology.

Thing is, the responses are from subscribers giving an opinion. And those aren't vetted. Someone who doesn't want to hurt the rating of a brand they heard was good may give a favorable rating when their car had lots of problems. Conversely, Someone frustrated with a brand may exaggerate flaws in their response. Both can heavily skew the results.

Again, if CR vetted the responses or somehow got access to warranty claim data, they could give a much more accurate representation.

Seriously, CR hasn’t got a clue. They just can’t help badmouthing the Wrangler. Yet, they still can’t figure out why it’s still the best selling off-road SUV.
