Seems a lot of folks are posting assertions about Mopars outside CAI based on previous under hood air system experience. I have yet to see dyno facts on Mopars CAI but Mopar says there is a performance gain. I installed one on my 3.6 auto JLR just because it is rather unique. Two winters and a summer on, no issues. As to increased noise levels LOL. I deleted the muffler, underhood sound liner, raised the hood hinges and run big M/T tires and haven't noticed it. Jeep thing !

Is it worth it if you're not gonna cut the hood?
It's not worth it in terms of performance gains (even if you do cut the hood), but you'll get some throaty sound and visual bling. But...it's all sensory, not seat-of-the-pants.

Have you posted a video of how it sounds? Do you have to cut the hood for this CAI? I noticed the size of the tube is larger than stalk and the top air filter box is smooth. Just thinking these 2 factors for me would be good enough.
It's not a big difference in sound. Actually quieter at idle than stock. Maybe a bit louder when some throttle is given.

I would say most of the benefit comes from the hood cut but you dont have to cut it. I had just the lid and tubing on for about 6 months. When I cut the hood I saw a mpg increase. Ram air works.

I've seen the Mopar cold air intake listed on a price sheet but without the hood cutout. How is this so?

It's probably still in the box.
If anyone is looking for more sound, I've found the K&N Blackhawk adds some punch. You get almost a quadraphonic sound from the engine.

My JLU-XR package was also packaged with a CAI. No hood vent from factory. This is coupled with the 3.6 w/ etorque. And yes, CAI is on the build sheet/shipped window sticker. Wasn't a dealer add on.

I'll check more under the hood when it's daylight to see if there is any difference underneath.

That is the critical part - otherwise you are just sucking hot air from the engine bay.

Not really. All other Cold Air Kits Do Not have the Hood Cutout that Mopar has. They suck air through the side opening between the fender and the hood just fine. I want the plastic pieces for the looks if someone didn't want to cut their hood.

I ordered the factory installed CAI and am curious whether you got the vent pieces in a box when you picked it up. I knew they wouldn't cut the hole and install it in Toledo, which would have been awesome, but it seems odd to order it and not get the hood vent parts you would get if you purchased the kit separately.

I don't think the dealer I ordered it through, who have been great BTW, is very familiar with this option, so we are all a bit confused I think. Anyway, did you get the parts so you could cut the hood and install them, or if you order the CAI on your factory build are you stuck finding the hood vent, etc on your own?

I haven't seen the piece anywhere, all I have is the door off mirrors, and something else, can't remember. Honestly, even without the vent cover on the side of the hood, it still pulls air from the same location as it vents right there under the hood without issue. You can hear the intake while driving if you're heavy in the throttle.

Yeah, I wasn't really sure about wanting to cut the xent, just seemed odd you wouldn't get the part if you ordered the Jeep with the CAI installed. I do like the sound, figured I might as well get it from the factory.

No vent piece came with my factory ordered CAI. I asked the dealer and they had no clue, said that part doesn’t come with the kit. After a lot of back and forth and me showing them pics they said they would see if they could order the piece. That was 7 weeks ago and still haven’t gotten an update.

My XR didn't come with a engine cover either. But my salesman said he'll get me a engine cover from a JL trade in. He said Ll of them are coming without one right now.

Shame there wasn't a way to, you know, say, register owners who didn't receive the part so they could have it sent to them when available......

Someday maybe we will have that capability. Until then I guess the best solution is to have dealers raid used parts from trade ins.... ?

cold air on a TURBO diesel is about as useful as a rear spoiler on a front wheel drive car. the turbo is going to heat up the air pre intake no matter how it is piped in. I mean, yeah if our factory intakes were restrictive like back in the day on the old YJ's then sure, this would be great, but our airbox does really work well. Now if they can make this a snorkel system, now that would be nice! Id'e never use it, but It would still be nice and I'de most likely install it because why not!
It's the opposite, probably more important on a turbo. Yes a turbo will heat up the air, but it's better to start with cooler air. It probably makes the most sense on the turbo. Since it's not a ram air system, it's probably nearly as efficient at bringing in cold air crawling 3 MPH as going 50 MPH - which is to say, not very efficient.

I'd like to hear what folks who ordered the factory CAI think.
