I'm enjoying driving my $55,000 Jeep without a radio, navigation, backup camera, and guessing what the climate control is set to. It's real zen.

I might leave the fuse out even after the radio gets fixed...

Took the Jeep to the dealership to schedule the steering box replacement and have the GPS unit fixed (kept putting me in the middle of the Pacific Ocean). While talking to the tech, they told me they'd probably need to order a new unit but there was probably a quicker fix: just reinstall the software. Obviously that didn't go well...

My radio is now bricked (new one was ordered last week but package seems to have gone missing), displaying a black screen that shows error code 20:

When I picked it up from the dealership, it was stuck in a white screen -- switched to black after driving for a few miles.

The radio will continue to display this message even when the car is turned off and locked.

Does anyone know a way to reset the radio? Or at least have it shut down, so it doesn't drain battery?
You might have to pull the fuse to turn it off so the battery does not drain.

I had issues with my 8.4" also. My head unit would stay ON even after turning off the ignition and locking the doors. It will the battery and you can get stuck somewhere. I had to finally pull the fuse for the head unit. It's supposedly the Uconnect4 software? I went through 3 different head units and the problem was still unresolved.

FCA has very strict policies. They will not accept a actual video for proof that it is malfunctioning for warranty. Personally I would not pull the fuse if it happens again. I would leave it the way it is and drive or tow your JL in to the dealer so they can see it happening themselves. I was told to do that by a FCA rep.

A month later and still no radio replacement. I'm going to show up at the dealership tomorrow at open to see what the deal is.

Did you guys ask for a tracking number for the dealer's radio order?
FYI, Dealers are getting refurbished head units. I would 100% make sure your replacement head unit is a factory Brand New Unit with the latest hardware and updates. Even that might not fix the problem. The problems are supposedly glitches with the Uconnect4 software. There is supposed to be a fix or update for the Uconnect4 problems in the next couple of months.

Hopefully Uconnect 5 is a lot better.

My dealer and the Uconnect case manager are saying mine is shipping today and sent me a tracking number(comes up only as label made) and should be here 2 days. Fingers crossed.
My replacement unit(not sure if new or used) is scheduled to be delivered today per the tracking number. It will be 4 weeks tomorrow since it was ordered.

I own a 2018 Wrangler but also own a 2018 Grand Cherokee. I received the UConnect Update on the GC last Friday which bricked the radio/head unit via error code 20. It drains the battery making the car undrivable unless you leave it on a charger or get a jump.

I contacted Uconnect directly and they opened a case. They also said it would be covered even though I’m just past warranty. They said the dealer can pull a fuse and it would be drivable until the refurbished unit was ready.

When I brought it to the dealer on Tuesday they said you couldn’t pull the fuse and that I should contact “Chrysler” and that Uconnect didn’t know what they were talking about and was a separate company. So I reached out to JeepCares, who in turn contacted Uconnect. Jeep Cares and Uconnect can work together as they are both part of same company, which was nice.

Uconnect called the dealer again and walked them through how to pull the fuse. So now I have the car back, waiting for a new unit. Everything works, including AC, except the radio/display. Thanks to JeepCare and Uconnect for helping here. They made a difference.

By the way, in a Grand Cherokee with 5.7 hemi the fuse is under the passenger seat by the battery. Very hard to find. Orange doggle looking thing.
Hey John--

That's awesome news! I'm so glad we were able to get everything sorted out for you. We always appreciate when our customers come back to share their positive stories.

Your dealer may have been a little confused... Uconnect is certainly part of the same Stellantis company! As the Uconnect Social Care Specialist, you might even notice that I jump around on various brand sites, helping with Uconnect concerns. However, there are certain features within your Uconnect system that we outsource. For example, Sirius XM is handled through AT&T. The great news is, even if you have concerns with these out-sourced features and functions, we will still do our best to get your concerns relayed and addressed!

If anyone else would like assistance while working with their dealers or would like me to look into their concerns, please do not hesitate to send our @JeepCares team a private message.

Have a wonderful weekend!

It took a month both times for my replacement head units to arrive at the dealership. I have no idea why they take so long, it is ridiculous for sure.

If you have Sirius XM, you will need to call them to transfer your service to the replacement radio. Mine worked for a few days after the replacement, and poof, one day no service. I called and transferred it and all set.

Add me to the list of unlucky folks whose radio got bricked by the last update…

Armed with knowledge from this forum and a really fantastic dealership, the experience hasn’t been too bad.

Specifically:
  • Called UConnect and reported the problem right after it happened. 1 (800) 826-6632
  • Pulled fuse F97 to keep my batteries from dying.
  • Called dealer service dept and explained what happened. They told me to come in the next day.
  • Dealer had me insert the fuse and they took a photo. This all happened right in the service bay, and I never even had to go to the waiting area. I was in and out in 10 minutes.
  • Dealer ordered a new radio that day.
  • Dealer advised me to get old radio EIN from Sirius so they could transfer service when the new radio gets installed. They will call and try to get them to do it without charging their usual $15 transfer fee. Shout out to Fitzpatrick’s Jeep in Ansonia, CT! Good people.
  • My UConnect case manager, Tyler, has been easy to reach for updates, and is very pleasant.
  • Zero pushback from anyone. All have been apologetic and eager to help resolve this at not cost to me (I am just out of warranty).
Current delivery estimate for new (refurbished?) unit is 7/6.

I am hopeful for a happy conclusion. (I was going to say happy ending, but I’ve been married a long time and haven’t gotten one of those in quite a while. ?)

DO NOT LEAVE YOUR JEEP WITH THE DEALER. I saw some of you guys have been without your Jeep for weeks and that is totally unnecessary. Simply yank the fuse and enjoy the zen described by @Deviant

I picked my Jeep up tonight with the "new" Connect unit. Pretty disappointed, here are the problems.
-No back up camera
-No back up camera app
-While there is an app on the screen for the heated seats and heated steering wheel, apps are shaded and when you touch them nothing happens
-Cannot adjust the headlight delay when you shut the Jeep off, again, it is under display but when you tough them, nothing happens.
-No way to tun on/off the horn when you lock/unlock the doors with the remote.
-I don't thing there is a off-road trail(or whatever it is called) app anymore.

I don't think it is the right unit..

@JeepCares step up and fix these things. Bunch of people here with problems and no fixes....

You need to give the new radio time to learn the vehicle. It can take up to 24 hours for everything to sync and be back to normal.

Thanks, I hope that is correct. I know nothing will happen with the dealer or Jeepcares until Monday. Fingers crossed it all starts to work over the weekend.

It happens any time a Uconnect radio is removed and replaced. It’s perfectly normal. When I upgraded from a 7 inch to an 8.4 inch radio, I could not adjust my climate controls, had no backup cam and was missing a few icons until I let the vehicle sit overnight.

Based on my conversation with my dealer today I'm reasonably convinced that all the units are refurbished. Which explains why it's taking so long to meet supply. They are waiting for revolving inventory.

Yet more FCA BS.

Yes they are refurbs. Unfortunately, the warranty does not guarantee that a replacement part be new.

And customers are left waiting for weeks/months for replacements because of an update they did not ask for and cannot decline.

Real cool.

I'm fine with the refurbed unit, but if one is not available they should be sending new units and not making customers wait a month plus for a refurb unit to become available.
