My other post on my cupped tires has me thinking I may as well replace my 30,000 mile ball joints now. I have decided on the Dynatrac upper and lowers. I did not really want to do this myself, but I called the dealer and they will charge $1,000 to install the ball joints that I supply!!! Needless to say I will be calling elsewhere or have to do it myself. I am right aren't I? A grand is far too much for that job right?

I haven’t paid for labor for so long that I’m way outta touch….. My first gut reaction is to say ā€œwow that’s outrageousā€, but everything has gotten so out of hand price wise these days……

It’s not hard to do if you have the right tools…. The more prepared you are the easier it will be…..I worked on mine all afternoon, but NASCAR was on the TV in the shop, so there was a lot of breaks, šŸ˜… ..when I install them for others it takes me about 3 hours…..Need anything holler……..✌

I have done dozens of ball joints, I also have a pneumatic ball joint fork that makes it easier. I broke my back a long time ago and doing that kind of work these days really hurts me. However, I am not sure it hurts me $1,000.00 bad.

Yeah, copy that….. 1000.00 is still a lot of money to me, no matter what it’s for…maybe hang the quote up where you can see it, and read it every time you start hurting, maybe the pain will subside a little….. šŸ˜…

You got some friends you can pay with beer and barbecue or something? Could be a lot cheaper than $1,000.

For the OP, you don't need to go out and buy a fork or a press. You can go to Autozone (or probably any other auto parts store), put a deposit down and use theirs for free.

Especially with dynatracs. I'm not sure how many times you're going to need to press them out after that.

Most dealerships charge $150-$200 an hour labor now. GM pays us $185 for warranty work. At $150 an hour that's only charging for 5.5 hours to do the work. Yes, that is too much money, and you can do it yourself with some rented tools. If you watch some YouTube videos and take your time you can do it yourself. Most YT videos only show doing the drivers side. The passenger requires a few more steps because of the FAD, but it's not anymore difficult.

It seemed a bit intimidating to me (first-timer) at first since it's somewhat more involved, but I changed mine a few months back & it wasn't bad. This was the only video I found that showed passenger-side.

Obviously I don't know your level of expertise, but overall it wasn't difficult. Well... except for that Pitman arm.

A grand is a grand...
What's it worth to you and what else could you do with a grand? Personally I would do it myself, perhaps use your "phone a friend".
