I like the Liquid Electrical Tape. Seals pretty good. Available at auto stores, Harbor Freight and Lowes/Home Depot.

I often mention I use and recommend liquid electrical tape use.

I suggest shrink wrap and then apply multiple light coats of liquid tape (give a few seconds between coats) over the shrink wrap. I mention apply neat light coats and do not slop it on.

I also use it to cover nicks in wires, etc..

Anyway, yes, good stuff, liquid electrical tape is.

How did I not know of this mysterious marvelously magical mucilaginous invention! What other fabulous secrets are you hiding? So many times I could have used this tapping into a wire with no way to shrink wrap.

It is good stuff. A little goes a long way. Follow @Rhinebeck01 advice and build it up with thin coats. The bottle lasts forever but it tends to dry out on me since I don't do much splicing/coating. Maybe only a few times a year.

Hi there. New to JL forums and new Willys JLU owner. Wanting to add a backup light to go on my jeep. Only want to hook it up to my stock aux buttons. What wiring should I use to go all the way to where the aux connectors are under the hood.

I was looking at this light. But would consider input from others.

Read and you will get you will get ideas in regard to b/u lighting..... b/u light choices, materials needed, how to run the wire down the frame rail, etc.

I have read through a few times. Sorry if I didn't make my request clear enough. Are there any lights that come with wires long enough to reach all the way to the aux switches? I don't believe I saw that in any of thread. Or will all lights pretty much need to extended from their stock wires? Sorry new to car electrical.

I just want one light and I will attach it to the bottom of my trailer hitch.

You will need to buy an inexpensive roll of wire and run that from the selected Aux switch wire in the engine compartment to the rear of the JL. It is best to run that single power wire through the frame rail. The actual light at the rear of the JL is grounded in the back of the JL.

You have the tow package... it is way easier to connect to tow package wire if you want b/u lighting to go on when you place your JL in reverse.

I don't believe you will find any light kits that will have enough wire to run to the rear of a vehicle unless it is made for the specific task. You will need to extend the wiring. There are lots of ways to do that. How and where you run the wiring will dictate how you splice and install the wiring. I am sure that attaching to the bottom of the hitch in the long run may not be the best location.

Hey @JeepFarr, If you are considering adding some additional reverse lighting on your jeep check out the vehicle-specific kit from Baja Designs. It comes with two S2 sports and all the wiring and hardware you will need to mount these up.

I agree dapipp, but I am trying to figure where a better spot would be. I don’t want to cut into the stock bumper. Wish I had the bumper with reflectors and I would just put it there. I am also considering something on the rear tire carrier.

it is expensive and I would like to have something I wouldn’t have to remove for trailering.

Disregard any posts in this thread, trying to get you to buy a $280+ set of b/u lights... a kit for your JL. No need to spend this much for a clunky pair of b/u lights.... for you to buy such a pricey "kit".

Do your homework... for far far less $ and very little effort, you can improve your b/u lighting.

Rhinebeck01: could you consider feedback about other options without being judgey? JeepFarr can surely make his own decision on what is “clunky” and “pricey”. I don’t think $280 is very pricey at all for backup lights on an $85,000 Jeep, esp when doing a three point turn on a switchback on Black Bear Pass after dark.
