I have a leak in my radiator in the same spot most people get it. First noticed it nearly two years ago, and have added a gallon or so since it first started. But, since it’s been leaking more recently I’ve been watching temps more closely.

I was surprised to see temps consistently around 221. When I got out to check the fan, it was not running. It does come on with max AC, but was surprised to see it off at 221. I do have a tazer, and used “cool down” mode a couple weeks ago to blow heat out of the engine bay to change oil. Thinking the tazer may have been forcing the fan off, I put it into cool down mode again. Temp went from 221 to 186 in seconds.

I came here to see if anyone else has had this issue, as my tazer does some weird things (radio stays on after shut down and door open if turn signal camera is active). So I thought maybe the tazer was inhibiting the low speed fan. After I toggled cool down on/off, the low speed fan came back on and temps stayed around 185-195 the rest of the drive with AC off in 85° weather.

It sounds like 221 may be normal though, and I’ve never seen it above that. Cool down mode snaps it back 35° fast though.

In 111F temps yesterday in Vegas coming back after a 15 mile drive on streets and hway:

In 75F outside temp, I see coolant and oil temps get to 230F+. On 111F outside temp, coolant temps struggle to exceed 200F. :)

Because you underuse the A/C. This is exactly what I keep saying.

Yep, the algorithm on when and how long the fan stays on + the speed of the fan is heavily weighted towards A/C usage.

"All that said, it's really interesting that the needle in the analog temp gauge always points to one tick mark below half, no matter what the actual temps indicate."

Same here! My 2018JL 3.6L that I had almost monthly overheating problems with had the same issue. No matter what- the analog gauge stayed in the same place. It was boiling over at a rest stop and it stayed the same = 1 notch below half. I also had a technician say to at the Savannah Jeep dealership, "don't pay attention to the analog gauge."

Now with my 2022 Wrangler EcoDiesel I've also noticed the same thing. Although I've had no overheating issues I had a 130 yard asphalt drive tore up and I decided to haul it to the dump myself. Big mistake. My point is, no matter had much I hauled at one time (I made about 20 trips) the gauge also never moved from 1 notch below half. I would think under a heavy load it should go up some.

I guess the question for other forum members, has their analog gauge varied at all while towing or overheating?

There have been 2 times I saw my analog go above the halfway mark and that's when my coolant temp hit 240 due to mud clogging my radiator. I have a '22 3.6l with a little over 8k on her. Since then, I've gotten the mud out and I've still reached 230 at times, but haven't seen the needle go above that 1 notch below the middle.

I've only done some very light towing and I've never had an overheat, but the needle is always parked at the tick mark just below middle. As stated earlier, it didn't budge in the slightest even when my oil temp topped out at 248 degrees (which was scary).

I just started looking around for just such a thread. Both my wife and I have Jeeps just bought this year.

Her 2019 3.6 had boatloads of heat, and still does. I was watching the temps this week when I drove it- and for the most part- they stay in the 192-197 degree range, going higher upon acceleration, and going lower on coasting. I checked hers, as my 2021 Sahara with 28K miles seems to not be doing well in the heat department...I have the 3.6 ET.

I can watch mine from warm-up, and it will seem to hit 190 -192, then immediately drop back and stay in the 179 - 184 range. Obviously- here in the northeast, that doesn't do so well for heat.

I can't believe the temps you all were reporting over the summer months- I've never seen temps close to those.

Oh I can answer this. It’ll be the same temps. We’ve been having these highs for a week already with “feels like” nearing 120°.

Yeah it gets pretty warm near El Paso and brownsville…can only imagine how it is off the big-o river-o
Well I’m an hour west of Brownsville so a little warmer because Brownsville gets cooled by the coastal breeze.
