I’m not running 37’s but am running 35’s here in South Texas and lots of stop & go traffic in Houston and my coolant runs 195-225 and driving with the a/c it hovers around 200-205.

I did have a 2018 Compass that had lots of problems from blind spot monitoring to over heating (250+) and the service folks told me that there were issues with the electric fan coming on when needed but said it was within spec so after a few more weeks of smelling coolant but seeing no signs of a leak I traded it off for my Wrangler.

You damn near have to be overheated to get the JL fan to run at high speed if you are not running max AC, and even then I don't believe it is hitting max output. This is the byproduct of whiny JL owners complaining about the noise. Jeep did a software "fix" that dialed the fan back, way back. I am working with a programmer manufacturer to try and get them to include the ability to either turn up the aggressiveness of the temp/fan rpm curve or give us the ability to max it out manually. I live and wheel near death valley and I'd rather hear the fan than be on the verge of overheat all summer long. I don't know if the manufacturer is going to come through, ill certainly let everyone know if they do. Another forum member who was having a similar problem had a pinhole in a head gasket. Remember you do not have to be losing coolant or oil (or have fluids mixing) to have a head gasket leak, all you need is hot gasses escaping a cylinder under pressure into the cooling system, i had an old Toyota V6 that used to do this every couple of years because of poor head gasket design. I personally believe the OP has a problem with his cooling system as others have stated, just throwing out some info/ options.

Another thing to check is the heater core, which can get clogged and cause overheating issues, too. Sometimes flushing the heater core can fix that. When you're running the heater, is it actually blowing hot air? And is the hot air coming equally from all vents? If it's uneven or some vents blow cold, could be an indicator that the problem is there.

In my old JK (also with the Pentastar engine), I had just about every overheating problem known to man. Replaced damn near every cooling component (some of them twice) before I finally sold it. I suspect it had a head gasket problem, though did a block test and it seemed okay. But I think that was a false negative.

More things to check...

Look for leaks (coolant or oil) around the oil cooler. The JKs were notorious for having leaks here, causing overheating issues.

Check for air in the system. An air bubble near the thermostat can impact its ability to regulate the cooling systems.

??

This is exactly how I feel. I haven’t had that update yet, but probably can’t avoid it forever.

Jim,

My 2018 does not have the TSB to address the fan and I won’t let them do it, actually I have only had one or two things addressed by the dealer back in early 2018 and it was the U62 and that’s it.

My fan is pretty dam loud but I will surly take that over running hot, I don’t wheel but do get on the back roads a lot and roll on the sand and then my commute back and fourth with DT Houston traffic and my temps run 195-225 and I’m ok with that.

Seeing a patch to speed the fan up I would like to see.

I don’t really hear a fan whether AC is on or off. AC blows cold, however.
It should turn on regardless of temperature. The fan will operate at slow speed, you can take a look under the hood to verify.

verified that fan is running on what appears to be low / quiet with AC on.

today was the first “warm” day at 45F, so I wonder if I’m just running the heat less and noticing higher engine temps as a result. Since buying the car a month and a half ago, never saw above 205F so I was surprised to see 219F in driveway.

no need to address with dealer?

thanks for your help!
