It's the only option for the 2 door...Jeep doesn't give two shits about the 2 door. Thus why it's optioned with a garbage manual. It can't even handle the low torque of the 3.6. And they reduce the tow rating. Ford offered a crap manual in the Bronco too. I'm not a manual hater, I have a C7 Vette with a 7 speed. Nearly every vehicle I've owned is a manual. My JK was a manual and had that for 10 years. It's disappointing Jeep and Ford don't care about their manual transmissions.
Nobody cares about their manual offerings, because they destroy MPG ratings. I have 4.88 gears and my 3.6 2dr rips, and I’m on 37s. Not sure what’s wrong with the ones you’ve driven. I also have a srt8 challenger, it’s tow rating also sucks, but not from lack of power ?

I just like driving a manual Jeep. JL manual is good enough for me to enjoy driving it. That's why I bought it and why 5% of Jeep owners buy them.

I don't think it makes me better or special. I just bought what I like.

I don't think there is any question driving an AT is easier than driving a MT over the same terrain. But who cares. Someone else could say to me "anyone can overland or cross country through the American SW in August with AC in their Jeep. Try it without AC tell me how easy it is." My comments were meant in jest.

Sounds like you have your Jeep tricked out nicely and what's more important is you enjoy your Jeep. We are all members of the Jeep fraternity and I'm sure you would help me if you saw I was having a trouble on the trail and vice versa.
Just know I have Jeeped in the SW in August, While it is hot, I prefer the top open and windows down. That is not saying we don't use the air, it is just saying that we like to acclimate to the climate as we hike a lot too. So it is better to just get used to the heat.

I would hope that everyone trick their jeep out the way they want to. I don't care if you spend your money on an angry grill and 22 inch wheels. To each their own. I would just hope that the money you do spend, that it brings you joy. I do not care what you drive, be a decent person and you are welcome to wheel with me and I would hope that others feel the same way.

I carry extra tools and tools that are not needed for my Jeep just incase I come across someone in need. For instance, I have probably given at least 20 valve stem caps away. Mine are tethered to my valve stem, but I still have extra caps and valve stem cores. I have fixed tires on the trail, used my bailing wire to wire up exhaust pipes an mufflers, loaned out my impact guns and big sockets to pull axles, and gave gas, oil and coolant to others in need on the trail. What I am saying is I am a firm believer in paying it forward. I also carry about 300 feet of recovery straps, ropes and so on and have recovered many along the trail. I have even pulled over and repaired tires on the edge of the hyw. I carry a nice tire repair kit and have on board air. It is usually way easier to plug a tire and inflate it than it is to jack it up and put a spare on. I don't think any of this is a big deal as this is the way our whole Jeep club is back in Michigan.

For instance, while wheeling in Arizona, I broke to teeth off the pinion gear. I have a complete axle sitting at home, it just needs to be re geared to 5.13 from the stock 4.10. A fellow friend in the Jeep club reached out to me and said, hey I can grab your axle out of your barn, re gear it and truss it for you if you want me to. I have sent him the gears, a truss fro the rear axle and a sensor for the locker that I removed to fix the current locker in the Jeep. I also have fellow friend in the Jeep club that have said, if you need a part and can't get it, let me know, I will pull it off my JL and ship it to you then just send the part to my house to replace it.

This is precisely the case. I think statistically, the people who have the most expendable income also have families, and modern women generally wear the pants and won’t let you get away with a 2 door anything, whether its a jeep or a sports car(likely due to their significant contributions to the expendable income). So your car has to now be a station wagon, an off roader and a sports car rolled into one, so you can get some semblance of what you want, but you can also carry your spawn and disgruntled wife around which takes priority over all things.
I lucked out my wife is cool with buying fun vehicles. I was like hey, we gave the 4dr sedan to our son when he moved back from Japan to the States last year, she was cool with replacing it with a 2022 Camaro SS convertible. We had kicked the idea of getting a 2dr JLR, but we wanted a vehicle on the other end of the vehicle spectrum. So we have the lifted JLUR and the Camaro SS convertible.

The funny thing is our son bought a new Silverado today and is giving us the 4dr sedan back. She is also cool with buying cool stuff for the Jeep and cars.

My strategy is to buy all the toys I want before I get married so then I don't have to worry about it after

My wife TOLD me to buy the 2 door. Whenever topic of Jeeps came up prior I always told her how much I prefer 2 doors over 4 due to aesthetics of the first 60years of Jeep history. Plus I love the way they drive (shorter wheelbase etc). When I told her I wanted to buy a new JL she said go with the 2 door or don't bother. I wasn't going to argue.

We have 2 kids and it works great.

The issues the Ford trans has had so far is that it makes a grinding noise on some. No failures or fires have been reported at least from what I’ve seen. And they’ve apparently fixed it with a new revised TSB and transmission part number.

But it’s definitely evident that the manual transmission departments of Jeep and Ford got the low end of the budget because nobody cares about manuals anymore.

Just don't get married.

I filed for divorce after 20 years. Now I date, and make sure to let every woman I know that I date that I will never marry them. And I guy what I want.
