Bought my 2018 JLU Rubicon on June 11th. By Monday on June 13th in was in the shop for an extreme amount of warning lights, loss of power steering, the normal bit everyone reads about on this forum. A very long story short, I have owned this jeep for 3 months and have had it in my possession for 10 days. It went back into the shop yesterday for the fifth time with the same symptoms. They service Dept. started with a steering module and now have run overlay wires to all the different TCM and PCM communication points. Returned it yesterday and they do not have a clue at this point. The dealer I bought it from won't do anything. There are no lemon laws in TN. I feel like I have purchased a $40,000 boat anchor. Any advice would be appreciated.

still under warranty? jeep dealership or just some shop? Seems weird nobody can track the issue down?

Assuming batteries have been replaced as that seems to be a fairly common issue with big electrical gremlins like you're describing???

Have you contacted Jeep Cares and opened a claim???

If it's still under warranty then it may be time to arrange a meeting with the GM and ask what they plan to do if they simply can't fix the vehicle. If they stonewall or tell you to go pound sand... I hate to be the "hire a lawyer" guy... but at that point I think you might be justified. JMHO

As you stated , TN has no lemon law or warranty for used vehicles but you still have a few avenues to take but they entail fed. Statutes and most likely the use of a lawyer. As mentioned above, the first thing to look at is the batteries, it’s the cause of most gremlins you have, don't know if it pertains to your Jeep but a harness near the front end has been known to rub through and cause problems. I think the thread on this mentioned rubbing by the sway bar but not positive.

Note, there are two batteries on ESS models. A bad aux not being replaced can kill a new main.

Did you get maintenance records (or even a carfax)? May provide a history of the issue.

Dealer should be able to print you a history, too.

I would trade it off or sell it to someplace like CarMax. That’s probably what the previous owner did, for the same cause.

Should a dealer be able to resolve it -and get factory support if necessary? Absolutely. But in the real world these days it often doesn’t happen. I expect the selling dealer knew and that’s why they’re not helpful.

Thanks for replies...It does not have factory warranty. I did buy an extended one however. They wanted to replace ALL the harnesses in the vehicle but said they would have to inspect them before approving it. This means the Jeep Service center would have to uninstall the factory harnesses and allow them to inspect them. IF they deny, this could cost me 8-10,000 to get fixed. That is why the service dept. decided to do the overlays for me. (not covered and cost me 1,000)

I hate to trade it to some place only to send these issues to someone else. That is obviously what someone did to me and I don't feel good about doing it to someone else. I would take the legal road before I do that. With it being a 2018, would Jeep Corporate have any interest in helping?

What federal avenues would I have as an option?

P.S. Batteries have been changed

Gawd Jeep dealers are just useless.

I saw on another forum that, if you replaced both batteries and the problem persists, then the second most likely culprit is a grounding issue. The challenge is tracking it down...

Can you try another dealer?
