Advanced safety - off button?

Hi all. I've found a Jeep that checks all my boxes, including the most important - hydro blue. It has the extra box of the Advanced Safety 'feature'. I've had this on a Murano in the past and wasn't a fan.
Can this be turned off for the Jeep?
Also - if (when) the windshield needs replaced, how involved is the replacement? I've read here a bit about a calibration process that's needed.
The whole package sounds like a pain in the ass, but if it can be turned off or otherwise ignored, it won't be a dealbreaker for grabbing an otherwise super sweet Jeep.

Don't knock it til you try it. The advanced cruise control on the jeep works really really well, at this point I'd never buy a jeep with out it from how well it works on road trips. Because the system is not in the glass you don't have to recalibrate it if you use factory glass although some places like Safelite may still try to make you do it.

The windshield glass is independent of the sensors so technically a recalibration shouldn't be necessary. In my local area re-calibration is required (extra $800). They told me that the thickness of the glue and thickness/type of the new glass requires recalibration of the sensors. I finally found a shop that let me sign a waiver to not have it done. New glass, no re-calibration and my advanced safety options still work just fine.

ah that's the answer I was waiting for - that the system is not in the glass. That would just be silly, given the replacement rate of our windshields.

I've had it in a previous car and although I did get used to it, I didn't really like it. I did like that it "saw" something potentially hazardous two cars ahead.

Another reason is that the windshield glass in the Wrangler folds down while the mirror and sensors stay in place. Speaking of, your jeep should have come with a cover for the sensors in the event that you ever fold the windshield glass. I am with you and if I bought another Wrangler, advanced safety is an option that I would avoid.

If you are talking adaptive cruise, the jeep has both standard and adaptive on the wheel with the package.

I love the adaptive cruise - not only on road trips but heavy traffic too. The safety part isn't bad, it will alert first (usually about the same time I am hitting the brakes) before it actually takes action.

So far it has only take action one time - I hit the binders at the same time. The yokels ahead of me were doing the stop for no real reason routine in heavy traffic.

Otherwise no unnecessary brake activity on its part.

Hydro is A great choice!

Once I figured out the nuances of the Advance Safety/Adaptable Cruise I loved it. It's honestly saved my ass on at least 2 occasions and is great in slow traffic/traffic jams IMO.

I specifically added the Advanced Safety to my Jeep and I use it almost every time I get on the freeway. The Advanced Cruise is just so nice. It *did* take me a while to adjust my driving to minimize the false flags, but now it works really great.

I have had a couple of [really obnoxious] false flags on the forward collision detection sensors, both times when someone in front of me was turning off the road (and taking their sweet time to do so) and I didn't tap the brakes. Again, I've slightly adjusted my driving habits around this, no big deal.

The part that I'm *glad* the Jeep doesn't have is lane assist. My wife's Lexus has it and it's so obnoxious and useless, IMO. On wider lanes, it winds up ping-ponging back and forth across the lane, and it freaks out if I let go of the wheel. Either the car can keep me in the lane or it can't. This half-assed stuff is just pointless, so I turn it off.

But yeah, the sensors are in a box at the top of the windshield *frame* and aren't attached to the windshield at all, so you're good. I've had my windshield replaced twice now with no issues.

The ACC is a great feature for traffic and MPG, where the JL can use all the help it can get.

The only time it does things it really shouldn't is cyclists in a bike lane. It can slow you down to the cyclists speed as if its in front of you. But I figured out all I need to do is a slight tap of the accelerator as I approach to acknowledge the cyclist and it ignores them. No big deal really.

Don't fight the feature, work with it and use it.

In my JL, if the car in front of me changes lanes, the Jeep kicks into full throttle almost redlining the rpms to fill the gap and then if a car switches into my lane it about puts me through the windshield with how abrupt the deceleration is. Hearing that other people have a good experience with it makes me wonder if mine does need to be calibrated. I just figured that all of them suck from the factory.

At least think about the implications of disabling a safety feature. It could be really bad if someone has an accident that could have been prevented. Yeah, I had a JLUR totaled by a girl driving a car that lacked that safety feature.

Mine is the same. Having driven both a Honda and a Toyota with acc and lka, I was really disappointed in the poor acc implementation and the lack of lka.

note, I don’t think you should rely on lka, it’s just nice to have that helper just in case.

Mine has the Advanced Safety package, and like others have said it is totally worth it just for the ACC. As for recalibration - yes it does need to be done when you have your windshield replaced. My windshield was replaced about a month ago and they had to recalibrate. It does seem to work better now as the recalibration did account for my current vehicle height due to the lift kit I installed las summer.
