All of my vehicles are equipped with Adaptive Cruise Control and/or collision avoidance. (24 Wrangler, 24 GMC & 25 Subaru). I was out with the Jeep and had the cruise activated. Someone pulled out in front of me and didn't accelerate, so the ACC slowed the Jeep down fairly rapidly.

Do you guys know when ACC slows your vehicle or if the collision avoidance is activated on a vehicle, do the brake lights come letting those behind you know that your vehicle is slowing down?

Yes they do. I have been able to verify that but I'm not sure how hard of a brake is required to activate them. I think jeep could refine them a bit as it seems to brake too hard when the car in front of you is accelerating and would not normally be an issue. I believe the system uses distance as the only metric.

Good to know. Thank you.

I agree, the Jeep does tend to brake much harder than my GMC & Subaru.

so I have this system, on my 2000 Ram, it would give you an indication while driving that it was working. The jeep, except for an occasional note on startup screen, which does not happen on every start, I get no indication, nothing. Maybe I drive to safely but have the sensor at far, still no alerts.

Any time you brake the brake lights turn on. Doesn't matter what triggered the braking, be it manual or automated.

I wonder how many accidents that this nanny crap has caused since its introduction?

I'm fairly confident that my last JLUR wouldn't have been totaled and the family in the JKU behind me wouldn't have had theirs totaled if the girl that slammed into all of us at 60 mph without ever touching her brakes would have had ACC.

I wonder what injuries she did to herself and if she can afford her insurance now. I walked away from it, but 2 of the 3 in the family behind me were injured.

We may be in the market for a new vehicle in the next couple of years that has a lower door entry for my wife. I'll be paying special attention to the nanny features that can be disabled. Choices.

None... but it pays well.

A lot less than you think. There are countless reckless and distracted drivers that have no clue to their incompetence in driving. Yes their car may make them feel they are in control with safety features and handling improvements... even while drink driving. As for the proper driver, safety features never are the cause for danger.

Last night after work... still a few hours before sun down. I had been in the middle of backing in my driveway. I noticed a vehicle in my drivers side mirror stopping at a stop sign across the street that divided our paths, as I started to back in slowly.

I have a curved driveway and the road makes for an acute angle in my approach. I expected them to stop but they saw clear cross traffic by the time I continued to back in, partially blocking both lanes.

Before I knew it they blew around me using part of my drive way to do so. My park sense and active braking stopped my momentum but did not stop the reckless driver. Needless to say they knew what they did and were not going to discuss it face to face.

I live too close to outer edges of two states, their plates are from North Carolina. So I followed them closely to see where in the world they needed to go that was so freaking important. Took 10 minutes out of their time, and way out of their way to their destination, to make a point to not do it again and to go back from where you came. No I did not blast horn nor yell at them... just let them know there are consequences, and they are luckier than they think. There are hot heads everywhere and most drive big trucks which are 80% of what is driven out here.

All in all I value my Jeep and to me it would be near impossible to replace in a timely manner. Not wanting anything newer or older than a 2019. They on the other hand had an inferior ride and did not care at the time for possibly causing damages. Believe me there are a lot of inconsiderate people of all types on the road. You need tech to watch out fir them more now than ever.

ACC braking does trigger the brake lights at any level of braking. Great feature for use on interstates, keeps you spaced at a safe distance at all times. Plus the safety group lowers your insurance rates.

Not sure how many accidents were caused by the collision avoidance but I turned mine off right it decided to slam the brakes on at 60 mph on a straight road with not another car, pedestrian or animal in sight either direction.

Yeah, if I could fix anything with the system, it would be either a user level harshness setting, or just dial it back globally. Car changes lanes from my right, through my lane, to my left -> gotta slam the brakes! then, gotta go full throttle to accelerate 10mph!

I understand that the first half of that problem is harder to solve, but, even as someone who likes to accelerate up to highway speed pretty quickly, the ACC acceleration / catch-up is a bit more aggressive than it needs to be, especially when the speed differential isn't that great. If I'm set at 65, following someone doing 62, and they move over, the car downshifts as far as it can, goes what feels like 3/4 throttle for a moment, then shifts back. It could certainly be smoothed out a bit for such a low differential

Edit: other thing I would fix - the fwd collision warning is way too sensitive. I disabled the auto braking (forget what its called exactly) when I got the car, but left the warning on and in the lowest setting just to see how aggressive it would be. The first time it went off nearly gave my wife and I a heart attack lol - going like 10mph, the car in front of me turned right into a lot, they were enough out of the way that I just slightly moved left to go around, then BEEEEEEP! Had another similar one happen in a parking lot before just disabling that too, which awesomely has left me with a permanent warning light on my dash, which is a bit absurd.

Exactly! On both accounts! The FWD collision warning definitely needs to be dialed back a bit! we experienced the same thing with someone making a right turn, could almost cause PTSD itself! The permanent warning light is crazy! what is it?
