Has anyone else noticed that the adaptive cruise control in their wrangler are super aggressive, I was test driving a 2024 Sahara on the interstate and somebody pulled in between me and the car in front of me. Even though there was still stuck plenty of distance between us to gradually slow, it slams on the brakes like they are going to kill me and then when they pull out of the way, we redline it to get back to speed, even though we only needed to go 5 miles an hour faster. I couldn’t find a setting to adjust this in the menus, and have not bought the car yet so I’ve not read the owners manual. Is this customizable? anybody have experience with this?

There are buttons above and below the On/Off for ACC that set how closely to follow the vehicle in front of you. As for the automatic braking/collision avoidance, there are three levels it can be set to.

Yes, I know about those, I’m just talking about the severity of the avoidance. My wife has a Subaru ascent, with way too many safety features, and it only slams on the brakes if it’s trying to avoid a collision. The Sahara yesterday slammed on the brakes because somebody 5 car lengths ahead of me cut in between me and the other car. They were going the same speed as me, and whereas her car would have just slowed to put us to that spot (unless they were hard breaking) the Jeep braked very hard. Then, they pulled out of the lane (becuase of course they were zipping in and out of traffic) and my Jeep proceeded to redline it to catch back up to that position. I know it should be smoother. And it’s not about the distance between the cars. I’m just wondering if there’s something in the settings somewhere that I did not see. Not how far between the cars I’m following.

The only time I've experienced what you're describing was from collision avoidance and I use ACC for almost all my driving.

The jeep concluded that at the time that a collision would occur while maintaining your current speed when you were cut off.
I don't use ACC when there is a possibillity of someone coming between you and the car you're following.
You can disable it if you think someone is going to come into your lane suddenly and then turn it back on.
The tech is fine you just have to know when to use it or not.

My other car is a Subaru Outback with ACC, and the Jeep's version is way more aggressive on braking than how Subaru programmed it. For example, coming up on the back of a semi, the Subaru system will see the truck from a lot further back and let off the gas in advance, the Jeep system will run right up to the truck (to the "distance" set in the steering wheel controls) then slam on the brakes. I've not found any additional setting to change this behavior.

I like using ACC the majority of my driving time as it’s another set of eyes on all the idiot drivers around me. I did find it be aggressive at first as you said. I’ve learned to use the brake and gas pedal to override in those situations and then let the system take back over. I do make myself drive without it from time to time, to enforce good habits. I never trust technology 100%.

I did find the longest distance setting helps a bit with the aggressive braking/throttle.

That's funny, I was just having this conversation yesterday with a friend. He has a toyota though, and he was saying that the ACC will jam on the gas when the lane opens up. Sounds very similar to what I see with the jeep's ACC.

I wished manufacturers would add an ACC aggressiveness setting. I hate when this happens and wished that it would smooth things out more. Unfortunately, the only setting I've found is the distance you want to follow the car in front of you.

I find the ACC on the Wrangler is much less aggressive than it was on my 23 Tacoma.

It doesn't seem overly aggressive to me, but mine's a 2022. There's no setting to change how aggressive it is, just distance.

Try driving another to see how it reacts. Something could be wrong with the one you drove.

My RS-5, however, had an aggressiveness setting.

The ACC on my '21 is significantly better than on the '20 Accord I owned. That Accord would slam on the brakes when it detected a car in the next lane over on a sweeping turn. It was terrifying. My Wrangler ACC feels much better. I use it in town and on highway.

I have ACC, not seeing this. Mine goes idle aggressively, slows then back on the power as needed.

I had ACC in a 2000 ram, no different.

Maybe just your perception between different manufacturers. I mean, it's a lot more weight to stop vs a sub

I live in a somewhat traffic, heavy area, where this is a normal occurrence, sounds like the system will not work for me then. It seems a little touchy.

This is what I was looking for, thanks. It just sounds like Jeep subversion of this is kind of crappy and there’s no settings you can do to fix it. It really makes no sense to know a vehicle is up ahead of you and to ride up on it at 68 miles an hour and have to slam on your brakes to get you down to 66 because you get close enough. It should just slow you down gradually as you get there. And again, I know my wife’s new Subaru ascent Will even take into consideration that if somebody cuts you off, and they’re still going faster than you, it will just let off of the acceleration to slow you down, not slam on your brakes and possibly have somebody behind you. Rear end.
